Imagine this, you post a message, a genuine opinion of yours, you get downvoted. You don't even know why. Not the best of feelings.

Well, that's why a Rep system would work much better than a like/dislike or downvote system.

A positive rep would give you GREEN REP ICON right besides your username and a negative rep would reduce your rep and if it goes negative, it gives you a RED REP ICON. I've been a member of a forum which has this system (*Name redacted*). Here's how mine looks like...

It's taken me a very long time to achieve that +rep. That above is like at least 100 people giving positive rep.

A member with negative rep can be quite easily spotted and his posts either ignored or taken with a grain of salt.

Not to derail this thread too much, but two separate Nintendo of America customer service reps (I called twice just to be sure) have said that they cannot unlink a NNID from a console unless they have a new console to link it to as well. At least in my case, I've already transferred the NNID to another console via the built-in system transfer function, so...

I told them I'd left the system at the house of a faraway relative, and was planning on eventually purchasing a new system instead of picking it up.

I didn't say that it was stolen because I didn't want the console (and SecureInfo_A file) to be blacklisted. If anyone can think of a better story, please let me know (possibly in a PM so as not to derail this thread?) and I will try it—although, the reps exact words were that "NNIDs cannot be unlinked without a new console to link them too".

Nope. This time my story was that I'd sold the 3DS but still had a Wii U, and didn't want someone to have access to my eShop funds. Representative said, exact quote, "unless you have a new 3DS that I can transfer it [the NNID] too, I don't have any way to do that [unlink the NNID]."

Only tried calling once this time, although I did spend several minutes pushing the single rep I did get, just to make sure. It's essentially exactly what I was told earlier. :/

Hm, that sucks. It seems in that case that the best bet for eShop would be a clean host SecureInfo_A, or finding some sort of way to force the system transfer and have the NNID transferred that way. Or just get an American N3DS and steal it's SecureInfo_A, have the NNID put there. I think in the post I was reading though the person said they had sold it a few months back and were trying to get it to work on their new 3DS they just got.

What about formatting the system while connected to the Internet? Doesn't that unlink any existing NNID so it could be connected to another system after the format?

Or if it's an NNID you don't care about, there is an option in the system to delete your NNID. I imagine that would unlink the serial number from any NNID.

That only makes me wonder about this 2nd hand 3DS I bought. It was formatted when I bought it, so I have no idea if there ever was a NNID on it. Like, what do you even call and tell Nintendo about this? "Oh yeah, can you wipe the NNID off this console? Doesn't look like there's one on it, but could you wipe it anyway? Please understand."

If you format it's still linked to the 3DS it was on before, you cannot move it elsewhere.

That doesn't make much sense from a usability standpoint. If I legitimately wanted to sell my console but keep my NNID for the future, why wouldn't the unlinking that occurs in a format allow me to then register that NNID on another console in the future?

This quote from another site about the NNID deleting/formatting process would seem to corroborate at least the unlinking:

"To remove an ID's link to this system without deleting the ID itself, go to Other Setting in System settings and format the system memory. An ID unlinked this way can still be used on the Wii U and non-Nintendo devices and can be relinked to this system later."

Doesn't really work like this. I believe the comments were that they made no attempt to protect it.

The exploit itself is debatable, a game that is becoming rare, etc... but there's no reason to not use it, I guess? More entrypoints is only a good thing for everyone.

Errr no they aren't they are just talking about unlinking the NNID without needing to immediately transfer to another system, which is a perfectly legitimate and reasonable thing to want to do like if I want to remove my NNIS from my original 3ds so I can sell it then use the money to buy a N3DS, but no, according to Nintendo you NEED to have both systems in your possession at the same time.........and if I want to sell my system and not immediately buy a new console! but will want to in the future and still have my eshop purchases.....nope apparently that isn't "allowed" either

Huh? No we're not—that would be terrible! I own the donor system, and in fact, the NNID has already been "removed" via a system transfer, but according to shinyquagsire it's still linked in an invisible way.

It still knows my console is European, no idea why though, but it's baffling. The SecureInfo_A definitely isn't their only way of knowing the console ID though.
