well if you don't play online, even if you where banned it wouldn't matter....but if you want to wait it out and see if anything becomes clear like if there really is bans or what is the likely cause, just keep your wifi off until further notice

I want to continue playing my legit games online, and I'm assuming the ban is on the whole system, right?

this seems like NNID. No wonder Nintendo was pushing towards a unified account to identify you across all their platforms.

Are we even sure that dumping the header(s) from your own game(s) will even prevent a ban? Do we know for certain that Nintendo can't detect that a header doesn't come from the game that is being played?

If you dump your own game...the unique identifier follows even the digital ROM. It's for most that don't have the original copy and are getting the header's from elsewhere.

This also reminds me of the ARM7 mod that we had to do for Slot 2 carts years ago. But it was Worms Open Warfare that we had to extract the Arm7 file we had to use for other games.. That was for offline use and just to use the game (good times with DSLazy ;)

^This...I want to know that too

I don't think we know anything at all regarding this for sure.

I guess you're right, it just seemed like the people saying to dump your own header were certain you wouldn't get banned that way. Saying things like. "Dump your own header to be on the safe side", personally I don't think that's the safe side until we know for certain that this way doesn't result in a ban.

I'd personally recommend for anyone that can cope without online play for a while to do so, until this matter is clarified by either Gateway or Nintendo. If you absolutely need online play, dump your own header but make sure you understand that there is still a chance that this could cause a ban.

There is no sure way to know, because if there were we would know by now. For us to say use your own header is a safety measure, SAFETY MEASURE. Using your own private headers and not being shared with others will help narrow down the possibility of what Nintendo looks for. For all we know they could be looking for something else as well as those headers. For instance if the headers don't match the game itself (in whatever it is they are checking) then yes it could flag your account.

Think of a header like a CD key. They are all unique. But guess what? Eventually a game will have the same one some day. I'm sure there is a game from 3 years ago on PC that has the same key as a recently released game. There is only so many combinations in the world right? So it could happen, and thus I have to think that as long as a key is not in use more than once it won't tell that it came from another game. The way that's solved is different types of key strings. like 10x4 strings (10 strings of 4 combinations in size) or anything like that.

With that said, hopefully they are all just slightly different keys and they really don't differ much than by some difference in string. That would make it so any game would be generated from the same key generator used in 3DS games? Just my theory.

whats the point of not going online? If you get banned... its the same difference.

also should people using cia. files start worrying about the regions of those games?

Funny you say that because I haven't gotten that error message even when playing games that don't have online play.

yeah...because your only stopped from playing online.....considering there is like 4 or so games with any sort of half decent online multiplayer its no big loss

But Monster Hunter 4 U is coming man.
I actually got the collectors edition and planned to not open it. I'm a little worried I might have to. Hopefully we get some answers before release. But I also played MH4G online with my own header and I'm still golden. My friend also played Pokemon X with his own header online. So I really hope this is a public header ban and everyone who isn't silly enough to use public is safe.

i was always skeptical they would start banning headers (when it was just gateway and people where already going down the personal header route, making banning public one fairly pointless), but i suppose with the release of sky3ds and the fact that probably 90% of sky3ds users are all using the same header for online use it would become a viable solution to implement

i wonder if anyone who was getting this has actually tried changing their headers to a new one

lets not forget gateway did actually say when online access was implemented that people should stick to personal backups for online usage

I just didn't have a need to play online which is why I never ventured into messing with the headers. I might check SSB.

translation = if you pirated it you can't go online.

if you dump your own copy you're golden

also once they see you're using fudged headers and ban your NNID. Changing headers will get you nothing. Your entire account is already boned
