I've logged a LOT of hours in Smash on my legit, hack-free 9.2FW 3DS. My questions are...

- Is there a way I can backup & restore my Smash Bros. save safely?
- Is it safe to play my Smash game card on my Gateway 3DS via emuNAND / Classic Mode?
- When the 9.2 Gateway update comes out, can I use it on my hack-free 3DS without corrupting my Smash save?

Thanks for any helpful advice.

Is it possible to back up my Smash cart save? What about a Smash .3dz save? A .cia save?

pretty sure bumping is against the rules and it definitely wont help
while i dont know the answers to all of your questions
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Datel-3DS-PowerSaves-Pro-Nintendo-3DS/36056179
that will backup and restore saves.
and when you make a rom from your own game the save should come with it but i doubt there is a way to put it back.
but if you just dont run the exploit and play smash normally you wont have any problems.

Would this work for backing up my Smash save data?

I think I read a while back that Gateway can only backup / restore CARD-1 games of a certain size. Either Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7 is that size, IIRC... There's an entirely different way of messing with CARD-2 saves, but CARD-1 saves bigger or smaller than that specific size? No idea.

Hmm. I dumped my Fire Emblem: Awakening game card today via Gateway OMEGA 2.7.

My save was not lost after dumping the game.
I was able to play the game card with my save via Classic Mode.
I did not try dumping the save game via Gateway.

FE: A is the same file size as Smash... Still, I don't want to risk corrupting my save.

No one here has tried backing up their Smash game card save?

I havent been able to get my smash bros card save to either .cia or .3d(s/z) I think it's not possible.

And dumping the save is perfectly safe, it only reads memory and doesn't edit it in any way so it can't get corrupted

So I could safely back up my card's save, but I could not restore it. Right?

What about playing it on Gateway Classic mode? Does that use the new save encryption, the old one, or a spoofed one?

If I ever get the "Your save data is corrupt" message because of incompatible encryption, does it begin erasing data immediately, or can I power off and keep my save?

It's Mario Kart 7 and the save size is 512kb. So as long as your save is 512kb and the save is not 6.x encrypted and it should work on GW.

I think it starts erasing immediately. Keep a backup :)
Classic mode uses the new encryption so you should have no problems with using carts and rooms concurrently on a >=6.0 3DS

Still haven't found a solid answer. Has anyone tried dumping and restoring a Smash 3DS save with a retail card?

Also, is it possible to backup and restore a Smash 3DS .cia save?

I don't know if the save dongle would help, but, other than that, there isn't a way to play dumped retail saves for games using >6.0 encryption yet. Someone either needs to develop a tool to decrypt and extract the saves, or Gateway needs to provide a way to use savedatafiler or extract saves some other way in classic mode.

I'm not sure, but I think the savegame is on the SD card and maybe part of it on the gamecard savegame.

You can dump the gamecard savegame with say Gateway's Backup save option, and the SD card you can just backup all the files on it.

PS: Gateway Backup and Restore save option work fine on Retail cards. What the previous poster means is you can't take a Retail card save and expect it to work on Gateway card currently. Gateway team hinted that they will fix this issue in one of the next updates

Please forgive the necropost; I've been searching the forums for an answer to this for hours, but I could not find any solution.

Is there still no way to move a Retail Smash 3DS save back and forth between the game card and .3ds/.3dz/cia format?

I still have Gateway, and I'm working on setting up CFW.

Anyone? From what I understand, it's possible to back up saves from a retail card, but impossible to restore them, or convert .3ds/.3dz/.cia saves into retail card saves. Is that correct?
