if thats the case then why such an interest in piracy??

Team f0f and others are withholding information for legal reasons, plain and simple. They don't want to be the next Geohot, its not rocket science people....

Scene veterans like f0f KNOW that enabling homebrew will ultimately lead to backup loaders whether they want it to or not (which Team f0f has made it pretty clear they DON'T want that). Somebody will eventually pick up the slack and figure it out. They don't wanna be the one's at the end of Nintendo's legal shotgun barrel and I can't say I blame them for that. However, without their work, we wouldn't be where we are today. Let's not forget that while they didn't release their exploits and what not, they laid the groundwork for what we have now and for what's to come. Without them we would all likely be staring at the black or white Wii U console scratching our heads.

I understand some people are bitter over them not releasing stuff, but the scene wouldn't exist without them and what they did tell us. Its our job and piece everything else together...

Now that the cat's out of the bag, people need to accept that fact that getting upset over the leak isn't going to undo anything or resolve any misunderstandings. Really, all we can do is move on, dwelling in the past, i.e. their getting upset at the leak, isn't gonna get a damn thing done. If the method was shared on how to let people dump the key on their own, it'd be a different story and a potential legal workaround. However, that too, is water under the bridge, just my two cents.

i dunno why i was quoted i was agreeing with what your saying btw

I apologize in advance if this comes off as ignorant as I'm not familiar with the inner workings of the "scene" and am more of a cheerleader for it than anything, but couldn't the information be or have been leaked anonymously without a way to trace back to it? I think somebody else mentioned the same thing in this thread a while back.

I posted this a while back but it got lost. Question for DEVS. When the kernal exploit is released, will the rpc system have kernal access (and possibly new commands to transfer files from console to pc and vice versa).

Retail games? If so, i doubt it. The dev kits are designed with development in mind, NOT backup loading/iso modding

Don't the dev kits have more RAM than retail ?
Also, they don't have the excessive encryption that retail units have...
Also, they use the same executable format, don't they?
I'm not really familiar with the Wii U development process (I only know the process documented in the leaked SDKs)

Well, we won't find out until somebody actually tries that out.

And that's the only praise they're getting from me. Hackers who withhold, irrespective of their intentions, are only a detriment to the scene.

Sorry to say this, bc I respect you, but please take that same idea with the NSA, KGB, CIA,.... or any other government organization that hacks your shit and then taunts everyone else that they know everything but won't share how with you.

I fully respect F0F's choice to not release anything and only show proof that they have gotten there by hashes. F0F is quite the elite team of hackers that have surpassed many big corps. I would rather them find the flaws and disclose them in a way that the corporation knows that it has been hacked and they need to fix their shit.

Seriously, when you think about it, google, N, Sony, etc... have MANY engineers on their payroll that specialize in security (rather shameful with their faults and flaws), but this team of a few genius hackers have ripped their shit open and have proven that those companies need to do better.

There is a bigger picture here, and it does nto involve gaming consoles, but the security of all digital data.

From the way I see it, and correct me F0F if I am wrong, but they enjoy a challenge. It is fun for them. When the challenge is completed they move on to something else.

I remember bushing being involved in reverse engineering v-smile consoles, and not for giving the small audience a way of pirating games intended for a 5 year old, but for the fun and understanding.

These type of people think in a realm of digital that most others can not conceive.

Even when I was starting off with my wii bricking repairs, marcan was a huge help to me. He gave me so much info that was not readily documented at the time.

With the wii scene, Team Twiizers got stabbed in the back by waninkoko. Wantincocaine got a lot of info from TT about the inner workings of the wii and he abused that info to make a backup launcher. WantingCuckold ended up bricking THOUSANDS of wiis (thank you for the business, douche) because of his ego greediness. I am not saying that WantinPenis had not skills, because he/she did, but he/she put on a persona of being a legit homebrew dev to gain the info to become a warez scumlord.

Now look at WantingCrackLick, he has bricked thousands of wii's, thousands of PS3's.

Look at the rampant piracy on the wii and ps3. I do not blame F0F to not wanting to have their name being the cause of piracy on another console.

We can all get into the debate of how piracy truly affects a console, but the question is, who wants their legal name tied to something that leads to something that ends up being illegal.

All members of F0F are completely open about who they are. You can find their real names easily online. Although they have they skills to secretly release info, but why? No one is going to make an application that can be better than what they can do themselves. F0F does not owe anyone anything.

These AWESOME devs that are F0F and associates deserve our upmost respect because they have done in under one month more than what the corporations could do iwith their own internal working in a lifetime.

F0F has shown that there is a way to hack it. If someone else has the brains to figure out a part of it then F0F is happy to work with them. Fuck, Marcan has said (paraphrase) himself that he would be happy to release more wii-u info if there was an honest homebrew scene.

So what. These lazy unskilled gbatemp hobbyist mother fuckers feel that they deserve more info that they have not been able to achieve themselves?!?!?

Your bitching and moaning about what F0F has chosen to do with THEIR info is not going to change a single fucking thing. Achieve it yourself or get over it.

Well, to move the thread back on track, I just finished the first version of SARCExtract (A play on ArcExtract that I've been using for RARC Yaz0 files for years now), nothing much, but it gets the job done. If you have python 2 set up as the default version to run scripts, you can just drag files onto it and it'll auto-extract ;) It's kinda messy, but....
Requirements: Python 2, nothing else
