Hacking New 3DS (LL) Out of Box Firmware Database

I imported my Japanese New 3DS White version from Nippon-Yasan. I can confirm that there was nothing (such as a clear sticker) preventing opening the box and taking the system out and checking the firmware and putting it back in the box and closing it...
So if you are able to buy it and return it unopened then I think you should be able to open it, check firmware, and make it look as if no one opened it if you just be gentle to the box.

It SHOULD work on any New 3DS.........but the update is to be out "Soon(TM)".

To all JPN N3DS owners, a simple question:

Are you able to open the Browser?

On my JPN N3DS with stock 8.1.0-0J, I can not.

When I try to open the Browser, I get the message:
この機能を使うにはインターネットを使って本体更新を行う必要があります。 本体設定を起動して本体更新を行いますか？

Which in a nutshell says "To use this utility you must perform a system update. Update now?"

So please try to open the Browser on your JPN N3DS and report:
- if success or fail
- firmware version

I totally read this in the correct voice.

I can't tell if I'm just trying to think myself out of buyer's remorse, but I prefer Metallic Blue over any of the US launch models.
I'd be lusting after the MM LE but... gold? I'm not sure why, but that just doesn't do it for me.
Anyway, after S&H and the import premium, I still paid $15 less than I would have for a US model.
My only regret is that I may need to buy a Japanese copy of Cubic Ninja as well; dynarec + N3DS enhancements is something I need to experience.

I'm glad to see users continue to report 8.x - 9.1 out-of-box firmwares (firmwarexen? firmwoxen?).

This is good, lts looking more likely that the future NA & EU new 3dsxl's might have 9.2< since EU ambassadors systems are coming with 9.0.
I hope so.

Incidentally, this is my first import of anything. This is also my first XL/LL system; I went from a DS lite to a DSi to a 3DS. I am already so in love with these giant screens, even if I have nothing to play on them.

If this is the dark side, I like it here. I think I'll stick around.
