The other NAND thread seems to contradict this and state that if you downgrade to 4.5, any carts that require 6.x or above (the new save format) are unuseable. Anyone able to confirm this??

From what I've been reading, you CAN play retail carts and use the eShop. What you're talking about is the save encryption. For example, if you started a save for smash bros on sysnand 9.2, and then downgraded to 4.5 and used the MT launcher to use emunand 9.4, you would be able to launch the game but your save would be read as corrupted because the encryption your system is looking for in emunand 9.4 would be the 4.x encryption (since the encryption key depends on the version your sysnand is on, in simple terms). However, the game will let you overwrite your save with a new save that has the right encryption.

I'm on 4.5 officially, no downgrade or anything. If I follow this guide I'll have a 9.4 emunand. Does that mean I'll be able to install CIAs that require higher firmwares, like Pokemon X/Y or Adventure Time Nameless Kingdom?

The 9.4 emunand is only used for higher firmware retail carts and eshop(assuming that you don't have gateway). Cfw and the 9.4 emunand do not affect one another.

You can't install CIAs on 9.4 emuNAND (for now). The 9.4 emuNAND is used to play retail cartridges (like Pokemon) or access the eshop.

Nope, if you follow the guide, you'll have a unique Launcher.dat on each SD which will properly boot the SD.

Is there a way to restore saves and games from an SD card backup from 9.2 sysNAND onto the 9.4 emuNAND? I would hate to have to lose all my progress. Could I maybe inject the 9.2 sysNAND into the emuNAND partiton so the old SD card files would be able to be played?

I don't know if any one knows this but i found out something cool if you don't have a gateway card and you set up emunand after you downgrade to 4.5 you boot intoo 4.5 emunand and then if you put in a game like pokemon y or x that uses a higher FW then 4.5 it will still let you play it on 4.5 with out updating your emunand!

I would think so if i can play the real pokemon y card that uses 6.xx fw on 4.5 emunand -(not cfw by the way) i would say go for it and let us know how it goes

The CFW refuses to install the CIA. I get "ctrclient: failed to connect" even though I am 100% sure I am in CFW, am connected to the internet, and entered the right IP. Any idea?

how are you trying to install it with computer if so run CMD as admin if you are installing it on 3ds do you have big blue menu installed?

Nope. running it as admin didn't help. I even turned off the firewall and everything. Also, I'm trying to get BBM installed.

Try manually setting the IP address on your 3DS. Make sure file sharing is enabled on your PC. BTW, when you said BBM I thought of BlackBerry Messenger XD.

you need your 3DS’ IP Address. You can use the tool you downloaded earlier (the network scanner) to find the devices from Nintendo. Note the IP (usually looks like 192.168.1.1xx) so you don't use the same IP that guy you need to find out what your IP. If i had a ds flash card and i don't right now i would make a video showing you how to do all of that.
