Issue of that is you needa backup of the nand from, the same motherboard that your dumped it from, and if they swapped it out....

Mh, you could open it up and clean everything with isopropyl-alcohol.

The both touch screens probably need to get replaced, so does the battery.


As already mentioned in this thread, getting a new one would be an easier and safer method.

You won't believe this... I was typing a reply here and I've just spilled apple juice all over my keyboard! The only upside is that it smells great. But I think as its seeping into the motherboard the keys are going to sotp wroking porprely. Oh ym gdo! I cna no logner tpye!!

lol....i know your joking, but i really did knock a cup of tea on my laptop laughing at a post on here a few weeks back.......had to replace the keyboard and dry the laptop out....but yeah its all fine, except i stupidly didnt look at the ebay listing properly and ordered a bloody american keyboard

That is true. But the rice trick won't work as it is right now.

the problem is that even if it dries, the sugars and goopy juice will still cause it to fry. there's almost nothing you can do because of how much cleaning needs to be done

There is almost no reason for doing this then. But I'll try anyway.

I like how you rag on their customer service, after they agreed to fix the water damage product. Try finding another company that will do that for you.

Just take the stupid apart your self, buy some ether or electronics cleaner. Blast the thing and use a brush to remove the corrosion and pop it back together.

You might be able to haggle with them a bit to lower the price. Tell them that at that price you could just go buy a used 3DS or something. Worked out in the end for me when I helped my cousin get his repaired. I live in the US though, so YMMV.

they would still end up with a 9.4 console.....truth is even if you didnt want to fix it, for 70 euro you could probably easily find a replacement console yourself on a good FW, and then sell the faulty console for say 20-30 euro's and come out of the whole ordeal better off than sending it to nintendo

Yes sending it to nintendo is not a plan anymore. Now i'm just going to open it myself try to fix it as a ''project'' of my own. And if it doesnt work out i might as well buy a used one.

well good luck, if all goes well it may only be the bottom screen and battery that needs replacing unless the whole thing was submerged in apple juice....the bottom screens are pretty cheap to replace though....if the apple just was just poured on it, there's a chance even the screen and battery will of survived

I can't recall what firmware it was on, but when we got our replacement/repaired 3DS, the firmware was not on the latest at the time, because I remember having to update it. Also, some of my friends bought refurbished units from Nintendo in preparation for Smash, and theirs were anywhere around 6.x-8.x. Of course, maybe just buying another 3DS would be safer, but the worse case scenario is that OP sends it in for repair, gets a 9.4 console, and sells it off to buy another.

Guys it's not as bad as first assumed .. maybe ? But i struggle removeing the little wire to the left on the first photo. It looks different inside from the american 3ds's somehow. :S

most recent info we have to go on is this

and generally if there is hacks or exploits released repair centers are advised to update systems before sending them out.........that's not to say all of them do, but if one center is already updating to 9.4, most of them will be.....plus you can get a second hand system for 70 euro (obviously depending on country/region)but if you sell on the faulty console you would probably end up better off and have it all done sooner

ahh ok so its an XL, i was assuming an original ....well its all fairly easy to disassemble, just be careful with the little ribbon cables and clips L+R buttons can just be popped off then the back comes off, and to take the motherboard out, remove the screws, and the top screen ribbon cables, open the 3ds out flat, unhook the circle stick (just needs the 2 screws removed and pulled up, there will be 2 little circle things underneath, keep them to one side with the stick, unhook the wifi module, and move it out the way of the motherboard, push up on the touchscreen to lift up the motherboard....but be careful there is 1 more ribbon cable for the top screen lift it up, remove lower LCD, then unclip the last ribbon cable from the top screen, the motherboard should now just lift out....clean and dry

hmm weird it looks like the wifi is stuck to the top of the case.....guess it will of been pooled in the apple juice, that may need replacing, but they are also pretty cheap

I have gotten far now with few mistakes. The lower screen seems like it is in fine condition. But the upper screen is clearly damaged even from the outside. I struggle very much to open the upper part of the 3ds as it is probebly all sticky. I have removed the 4 screw hidden behind the rubber cubes, and i have tryed to flick it open with a minus or flat screwdriver. There is not real guides that shows the proper way to do this as far as i have seen.

It sadly is the wrong model.
You are supposed to push this one down and then open, but i just can't do it.
