Hardware Removing update nag on a NNID linked 3DS XL

I've recently had the update nag on my 4.5 3DS XL but I've also have a NNID linked to my 3DS, I remember reading somewhere that this will mean the 3DS needs to connect online once formatted and I don't want to run the risk of it updating my firmware in the process. If this is the case is there a work around? thanks

Just a heads up I've formatted my 3DS XL with no issues problem solved

You should mention that all your eshop games are gone, along with the save files. And you can't download again cause you need to update to access the eshop.

just a question you lost your eshop games you can't backup the games? because i have shin megami tensei 4 region EUR with all dlc and i want to do a cia about it

I didn't have any purchased games from the eshop but I'm aware that this is the case
