Due to Nintendo's partial fail with the official GameCube Adapter (the fact that you need Smash to use it) I sent a email a few days ago to see if Mayflash would make an updated product (they have a GameCube to USB adapter) with HID support. Here's what I received

Hi LightyKD

Thanks for your kind message. We have been watchting at NINTENDONT recently. It is very amazing! And we will release new item which is compatible with HID standard.
Please wait in patience and keep attention to Mayflash website for updates.

Best regards,
Lemon

I figure that this would probably be the best place to talk about this new adapter. Also We should probably make any Nintendont related notes and send them off to Mayflash.

I wonder if this device could have support for the Link Cable?

I'd be interested in this new Mayflash adapter, though. Could it support DDR dance pads on Wii U? The struggle for us DDR fans is real... And unfortunately the Wii received some of the best songs in the entire series despite otherwise having mediocre releases. I just wish Nintendo made good on its promise (or whatever some rep said) that the GC adapter would work with Wii games... Nintendo, listen up! It's already crappy that backwards compatibility is implemented using a virtualized version of the Wii software (vWii). Fix that crap! Playing old DS games on my 3DS is so convenient because the system doesn't restart into a makeshift "DS mode", it just takes me straight to my game right from the 3DS menu. How hard can it be to make the Wii U behave that way? (/ end rant )

Dude, they virtualized and sandboxed the vWii so that Wii exploits couldn't open up a Wii U exploit. It's common sense, really...

I have a pretty good idea of why Nintendo has chosen to do what they did with vWii, but that doesn't remove the fact it's a very unfriendly experience to the user and more than anything complicates something that should be as easy as popping the game in the console and pressing start. That's literally how it works on the 3DS with DS compatibility. I don't accept this "common sense" you're talking about when it's detrimental to my experience.

That said, there's nothing Nintendo will do about vWii for now, that includes incompatibility with GameCube controllers. So yeah, if Nintendo cared about backward compatibility they'd do something about it, but they don't. That's the unfortunate truth. :(

Nintendo could have implemented the GameCube ports on the Wii U console itself for the 1st gen systems and then if there were a 2nd gen then those would have the ports removed for lower costs or something, this way, the 1st gen Wii U systems would be 100% backwards compatible with GameCube controllers.

But we saw it coming that they wouldn't include GameCube compatibility with the later Wii models and Wii mini...

My biggest gripe with the Wii U is the lack of native internal 1080p resolution rendering of Wii games. Also, the vWii's video quality is utter shit compared to the Wii, from what people have told me; That makes me want to keep my Wii when I get a Wii U, and not even touch the vWii.

Use Dolphin, rendering Wii games in 1080p requires tremendous CPU and GPU power, but okay. Trust me, the amount of power require to do that is pretty damned high, a mid-range CPU is enough to do that on its own.

Did any console ever actually improve rendering quality for BC games? Is that even plausible on legit hardware that completely thinks it's a Wii?

The PS2 is the only console to offer texture filtering of PS1 games to improve the visuals, otherwise no... But it CAN be done, hardware devs are just too lazy to do it. :/ And making the quality shittier on purpose is just an additional slap to the face.

The texture filtering on the PS2 was shit though. You don't know that for sure though, it's not a simple thing to render at a higher resolution. The PSX games were not rendered higher, they were just filtered, that it's, bad example. Texture filtering != resolution increase

It's not being made shittier on purpose, what the hell are you talking about? The Wii games' jaggies are more noticeable, that's how the Wii U renders it. "From what people have told you" is a baseless assumption, Wii games are fixed at 480p, the Wii U scales it to 1080p, making jaggies more visible.

I know, but it was still a vast improvement for the visuals. Playing highly-pixelated games like Silent Hill and Final Fantasy 8 were greatly improved from just that feature alone, which still tapped into the hardware to achieve the filtering. I just wish more hardware devs would try improving the backwards compatibility visuals a little bit. Emulators can do it, which are programmed by amateurs, so surely the paid programmers could do it too.

I give up trying to explain why. There's no point, at all, for me to continue. Wii games are stuck this way, either use Dolphin or simply deal with the fact that it requires tremendous resources to do it. End of discussion.

What's this talk about playing PS1 games with better visuals? Y'all should've paid attention when the holy and almighty Dreamcast could emulate PS1 games with better visuals. All hail Bleemcast!

With shitty low compatibility too! Bleemcast was a good idea, and even though they won every lawsuit from Sony, they lost; the compatibility on there was very very low.

PaRappa the Rapper works fine. He's a PlayStation All-Star, too. Did you know he's in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? That's because PaRappa is the best. In fact, his game was released again on the PSP just 10 years later! No other game is as good as PaRappa the Rapper. No other game counts. Unless,... are you're saying PaRappa isn't the best there is in the gaming world? That he is not Sony's sweetheart? What do you have against PaRappa anyway? What has he done to you? Are you discriminating him because he's a dog? Or that he's a dog of color? Shame on you, sir. Shame on you. :ohnoes:

You--------> the point *zip* gone. No point in me trying to convey what was I saying. Nice going. Why I even bothered replying to you about that is beyond me. Talk about a vain effort.

I was trying to get the thread back on topic, though I've seemingly created a new mess. Sorry about that.
