Omg, my japanese New Nintendo 3DS LL just came in here and they didn't hold and charged the importation taxes, i even got with the better fedex mail on nippon yasan that they said it's 95% chance of it, this just can be life wanting gateway's new update to be released! It's the Illuminati

One question:
It's obligatory use .cia?
I can play online games not using .cia? What i need to have/do to play online games more than have the system updated?(consequently the emunand)

I'm worried with this because i spent so much money on Gateway+New N3DS+32gb sdcard to put on the gateway's red card that i can't buy any other sd to use to install games .cia :(

The N3DS LL should have a 4GB MicroSD inside. You can use that to install .CIAs (which are either Themes or Updates or, if you want, even Games themselves).

just asking, what time is it on your end?

1:17 AM.

Not to derail this thread but I have a question for you guys...

Is there a way to lock/secure a game card in the game card slot? To keep someone from being able to remove the game card.

you dont have to use .cia for anything ever. It's totally upto you. Go on youtube and watch a tutorial on it, nothing has changed so far, It'll give you a good idea.

To play online for CERTAIN games (like Smash Bros, where you need the updates) yeah. Otherwise, nope.
}

and then i just use the .cia to update, and not to the entire game then?

As Phantom said, for games that need updates to play online, yes, installing as .cia is obligatory as updates come in cia form.

Other than that, this is the main difference:
.3ds files have headers. A header identifies THAT cart. if you play MY backup, then Nintendo can see that two people are playing the same CART, which is not possible. The way around this is to take a header from another game you have (even off-line game) and put it in using tools on a pc.
.cia however, uses the console header. Meaning if you install SMSB as a .cia, then that's it. make sure it's updated with another cia, and online play is available.

It's not obligatory at all, eShop update dumps are few and far between, you can get any updates you need from the eShop (which is alot safer than installing .cia updates, especially if they're not scene released) you can use .3ds or .3dz at all times just fine.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
