EDIT5:

With the release of the New 3DS XL and New 3DS in Europe and the New 3DS XL in the Americas, users should start to submit serials for these systems! (Especially since I hear that the first batch itself is mixed -- some consoles having 9.4.0, and others having 9.0.0.)

So, I've heard that some New 3DS (LL) consoles from Japan are coming with 8.1.0J, while others are coming with 9.1.0J, so I figured I'd make a thread where people post the letters and at least four numbers of their console's serial, along with the system version their aforementioned console came with and its color. An example submission would be:
Code:
New 3DS LL (Metallic Blue), QJH1017XXXX X, Version 8.1.0J.
If the New 3DS (LL) consoles are anything like the old ones, the serial numbers should give some idea of when Nintendo transitioned to shipping them with the new firmware version.

Here's what we have so far in spreadsheet form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rYsMcMy2uvya3EdmqetsDp7mA18dZGwfJdoPgFGhRao/pubhtml

This information can be used to predict the version of a New 3DS before it's even turned on!

EDIT3: Because people cannot follow simple directions; I am creating a submission wall of shame contained within this spoiler:
My White New Nintendo 3DS came from Nippon-Yasan today.

8.1 firmware.......YJM10****469
New 3DS LL (Metallic Black), QJF10xxxx Version 8.1.0J.

N3DS LL Mettalic Black JP Import, Play-Asia, ordered around 5-6 days ago.
Ver.9.1.0-20J
nippon-yasan JP new 3ds ll metallic blue 8.1.0-J
Ordered Jan 2 and recieved it today.

metallic blue ll

QJF1XXXXXXXX 9.1.0-20J
Got mine about a week and a half ago now, forgot to add it:

Color: Metallic Blue
Region: Australia
Serial: QAF100XXXXXX
Firmware: 9.0.0-20E

Where can I find my console's serial?

Edit: I mean aside from the bottom of the console itself.

New 3DS LL (Metallic Black) QJF103835XXX, 8.1.0J

After I get enough submissions, I plan to make a Google Docs spreadsheet to help others more easily predict the version of their New 3DS before breaking the seal on the box.

How is it possible not to break the seal on the box if the serial is only on the console itself though?

Ah, that. It should be somewhere on the box too... unless Nintendo changed something... in which case this thread is doomed.

my PAL N3DS XL's didnt have seals on them.
Really? I guess Nintendo stopped using seals?

EDIT:
Can someone confirm if the boxes don't have serials on them anymore? Because I looked up a few unboxings just now, and can't see any serial sticker on the boxes...

Wii U consoles in canada don't have seals in my experience. I've opened like 10 of them, and nothing...

There's a hole on the box, showing the console's serial out the backside. You would know this, if you ever purchased one retail...The person ringing you up scans the UPC on the box, then the console's serial number UPC.

There is no hole on the box of my New 3DS LL, nor any sticker with a serial that I can find. Only on the console itself.

Where was the serial on your box? /Can't find mine.

I just looked on the back of my n3ds, but now that you've mentioned that I took a look at the box and you're right, I can't seem to find the serial anywhere on the box. Guess this will make the hunt for new and sealed 9.x N3DS' difficult.

so i think itd be interesting and kind of useful if ppl would say where they purchased the device as well :)
