it's the amiibo update

Changes to System Settings:
  • amiibo Settings has been added to System Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo
Improvements to system stability and usability:
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

How the EULA basically bricks your WiiU if you don't agree, because there's no decline button, and it won't let you access anything else until you implicitly agree to the new EULA.

Not possible if you actually want to migrate your legitimately purchased content from a Wii to WiiU.

As someone who doesn't own a Wii U but owns a Wii.
Doesn't the Wii U display a pop up saying there's a update available which you can basically decline?

That's just it; that one EULA update denies that; and even if you restart the system, you literally cannot do a damn thing unless you accept the new EULA. Not even play a retail game OFFline.

Yeah, I didn't really notice the new EULA until it blew up on the internet. It's just nasty for Nintendo to do that.

Or, unplug the router or Ethernet cable. Can't force the EULA if there's no internet connection and if the console can't update.

*Unplugs Ethernet cable from Wii u* Whoops.

Wow...
Ninty...

Interesting tho that it turns the Wii U into a brick.
Makes me think of MS with their stealth DAE update in dash 13609.
Silently updating the 360, flagging 1000's of consoles with their failed attempt at AP 2.5.

Actually, it doesn't brick the console at all, as it isn't permanent until you agree to the EULA. However, no internet connection, no update, no EULA. They can't force EULAs if the users don't update. Will wait to be sure if it's truly safe to update.

System stability = euphemism for, "no moar exploits"

Nor did the silent DAE update.
Untill you turned it one one day and received a nice pop up that you won't be able to connect to Live til 31/12/9999 ;p

Yeah, that's asinine, well, Nintendo can't keep the updates up forever. Still not gonna update unless SSB4 has a disc update that has, we know it has at least 5.2.0. Companies, screwing over end users since...forever.
