Been eyeing this my only case use would be more access to fedora related apps since mullvad vpn is a little tricky or out of my scope to really get set up on steamos. I'm more use to gui nothing that's really back end stuff or requires cfg files. They don't really have extensions for mullvad when it comes to steamos. Plus it's always annoying to have to reinstall every title.

I wouldn't on a SteamDeck personally. You can already install anything on Flathub, the same as Bazzite can.

As for a VPN I'm presuming Mullvad will let you download a ready to go OpenVPN or Wireguard config? if so its a few clicks on the SteamOS desktop to import / use that.

  • Switch to desktop mode on SteamOS.
  • Load "System Settings", then go to WiFi and Internet.
  • Click the "+" at the bottom to add a new connection, you can then import a VPN connection profile without having to install the Mullvad VPN client.

I enjoyed it when I was running it but honestly, SteamOS is just better on the deck
Like I say my only issue with steamos is the limitations of apps that aren't natively supported. I never thought to try launching mullvad in something like lutris tbh not sure if that would affect anything or just work.

Considering Bazzite is based on Fedora and doesn’t wipe apps installed directly on the base OS, I would say it’s better

I would say it is only worth it for the Steam Deck if you have specific advanced needs. If you just want to play games out-of-the-box, SteamOS is still king and offers the most stable, hassle-free experience
