So I'm leaving in about an hour to get in line for the release of Smash bros. tonight, and Gamestop said they'd be having a Brawl tourney to pass the time. Any tips for a guy with no real competitive Smash knowledge? I've been playing since it came out, so I have experience, but not very much.

Quick, download Brawl Minus onto a 2GB SD card and introduce that to your group. They'll thank you for it!

Seriously, Minus is the most fun form of Smash there is. It puts regular Brawl to shame.

Plus, if no one in your group is familiar with it, level playing field!

All you do is delete all custom stages on the Wii, exit Stage Builder, insert SD card, re-enter Stage Builder.

If it freezes, retry.

Also, if code type is not already set to "AXNextFrame", set it to that.

Chances are you'll be going up against people with no real skill either.

My only tip is to not underestimate small, fast hits. The damage racks up quickly enough and then it's easy to finish the person off. I see so many people constantly going for big hits and getting their ass handed to them because of it. If you can't predict peoples movements well enough to land a solid heavy hit, or know when to bail if it wont, don't bother.
Big characters are a lot harder to play well, and most competent people playing speedy characters will just murder you.

Not much else I can really suggest. I played Melee way more heavily than Brawl, so that's the best i've got.

Thanks... this seems like good advice.
Get game, bring it home, dump it, anonymously put it on internet, and tell us where to find it.
Don't have the tools to do that... but I totally would otherwise.
