I've heard sound is worst with the XL model, except for headphones, also screen looks like a mesh screen close up. And if so will my eyes adjust to the pixelation. Any other korks I should know about before purchasing. I'm going to do a system transfer aswell, anything in that regard I should worry about, e.g.; lost of internet leads to corrupts data, missing save files, those kind of things. Thanks for input in advance, peace out.

Would you wait for a New 3DS XL? Otherwise, with a system transfer and save backup tool, you have nothing to lose.

The speakers on my XL are terrible. They don't get even close to loud enough. I've heard that this isn't the case with all XLs but it is a problem with a lot of them.
Other than that.. I can't think of any cons. I guess that fact that it still has tiny buttons made for an infant.

What about with headphones?

No, as my "R" and "A" buttons are staring to fail from MK7. Wait, I need to use the save backup tool for all my save, even with a full system transfer? What about my downloaded software and eshop monies?

A system transfer should be enough. Your downloaded software doesn't get transferrred, but your licenses do, meaning you have to download them from e-shop again. As for the e-shop balance, both balances are merged to the target system. However, the amount could not exceed $200

Also as for the screen, I think it looks pretty good. Sure, they didn't up the resolution so technically it's stretched a tiny bit but you honestly can't notice it at all. I personally think the bigger screen looks better.

So for the digital games, that's what the save backup tool is for, basic system transfer doesn't bring the digital saves over? Or do the saves for the eshop games stay on the ds card, and if so I just pop it into the new system?

A system transfer should take care of the saves. System Transfer tool just moves your retail carts' saves onto a digital copy of the game.

You mean the save backup tool...

I didn't have a OG 3DS but here's my experience with XL.
Speakers suck, be sure to change to Stereo sound in settings for best quality.
Pixelization is ok-ish but on some games it sucks, like on Conception II. The game is totally unplayable on XL.
The Dpad is clicky, not sure if that's a good or bad thing. It was bearable.

Have you ever done it?

Yes sir! I'm also planning to do it again soon when the New 3DS comes out next year. It will save me from having to buy a Circle Pad Pro (and its works with Smash) + NFC/Amiibo reader. I also like the fact that the 3d could be viewed in most if not any angle, which is a reason why I hardly use the 3D on the 3DS. Unfortunately, it seems it won't be the case for you due to the fact that you will need one as soon as possible. In my opinion, I'd definitely go with the 3DS XL. The screen is nice and large , making visuals in certain games appear to be very nice and chances are you hardly use the speakers on your 3DS in a public or loud area. Just think about Smash on a larger screen ;)

pros:
bigger screens
top screen doesnt get scratched when system is closed
longer battery life
stylus slot on the side
matte finish replaces gloss finish
better for bigger hands
regular buttons replace covered buttons for start/select/home
3d slider locks
comes with 4GB sd card instead of 2GB
gateway compatible ;)

cons:
size
charging dock not included
volume slider is too sensitive

I didnt notice any pixelation between the xl and regular 3ds
