Gaming Games that can "Save" Vita!!

As for the PSP, it sold more units than the Game Boy Advance, so arguing that it wasn't successful when it was Sony's first fully fledged portable is crazy talk.

No one said PSP wasn't successful. Selling 80 million units of anything is a massive success by any measure, but that doesn't change the fact that DS sold twice that, which really is amazing if you think about the developers Sony has signed and games they got for their portable system.

Right now we have 40+ million 3DS units on the market, which is still a great result, when you think about how much of that market belongs to smartphones these days. Still, when Square Enix was asked about bringing Dragon Quest VII 3DS to the West, the answer was, in short "we don't know if it would be profitable". Things like that really make you think about the current state of affairs. Things like that also make you realize how way off base with their guesswork those video-making youtubers really are.

I would have to be insane not to acknowledge that the DS was a massive success which came as a big surprise to a lot of people, I was merely underlining that the PSP wasn't a failure just because it only sold half the units. These days the market is especially difficult because the days of the dedicated handheld gaming device are over. With the advent of smartphones, less and less people require a dedicated handheld device just for entertainment, so the pool of potential customers is greatly narrowed. Practically speaking, dedicated handelds are "just for hardcore gamers" now wheras two decades ago it wouldn't be weird for a cubicle dweller to buy a Game Boy just to play Tetris.

This is pretty much what I meant to say when I mentioned Dragon Quest VII and the lack of a western release. The fact that there are so many layers to the Vita problem should discourage just about anyone whenever they're thinking of making an argument based solely upon the part of PSP's game line-up they themselves have enjoyed. Plus, linking YouTube expert wannabes is never a good idea, especially when their whole point can be countered with "not every good game has to cost millions of dollars, and not every game that did was better off because of it".

I didn't buy a Vita to play any one game. I bought it because I thought it was a cool console with plenty of possibilities, not necessarily based in limit-pushing graphics. For example, I liked how Little Deviants used the rear touch-pad. I was genuinely excited when I saw early gameplay demos, thinking how fun it looked. And it's the simplest of ideas, really. I instantly thought of games like Ballance with gyro controls. Too bad we never really got there with the Vita, and by the look of it, we won't.

I just did a quick google of "Playstation Vita Sales" and all I see is websites saying the vita is sold out everywhere. I think with the introduction of the Vita 2000 packages, the sales have gone up quite a bit.

I mean, just a few months ago I finally decided to get a vita because the Borderlands 2 bundle was just too good to pass up for me. So then I check literally every single online and physical store for this bundle and none of them have any in stock. Gamestop, Wal-mart, Best Buy, you name it, all of them were out of stock completely. I even called Sony's marketing department to find some lol, and no one there could find any or know when it would be restocked. Pretty much the only place I saw them in stock was EB games in Canada but they don't do international shipping. Luckily I eventually managed to find one bundle in the darkest corner of a display case in Meijer. So seeing how it took me this much effort to buy the vita, I honestly don't think it's doing too bad or needs any "saving".

I'm sure more games will come in the future, once developers for the PSP all shift over to the Vita. Though if they're going to be the 10 games that you yourself want, I'm not too sure.

As great as being sold out everywhere is, I highly doubt it's due to some crazy high demand. If anything, it's more likely it's a case of most stores keeping a low stock of the Vita and running out after some moderate interest has been spiked. Unfortunately, we won't really know until Sony actually says something about the sales, they haven't said anything in ages...

Also, regarding your comment about PSP devs, there are 2 problems with that. A), the PSP was discontinued earlier this year. God Eater 2 is most likely going to be the last PSP game released (technically, it was just a down-port from the Vita game anyways). B) It's been about 3 years now since the Vita's release, if devs haven't "moved on" by now, then they probably won't at all.

Vita had many issues including the launch price which was more than a home console itself. It still does not have system seller exclusives, it had a few good exclusives during the beginning of its life cycle. Don't get me wrong, the games it offers are nice, but they're still not system sellers.

As for the games the OP mentioned, the PSP didn't survive through ports, it survived mainly because it actually had system seller exclusives, such as Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy Dissidia, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, God of War Chain of Olympus etc... It also survived because many people were excited for a handheld that offers PS2-like graphics. The games you mentioned can be already played with a much better experience on a home console. It's simple the Vita needs exclusive games, games that will push people to buy the system.

I know what you mean. But I think they are still switching gears over in Japan. You can see a good example with God Eater 2. It came out initially as a Vita and PSP title in 2013. Now the enhanced God Eater 2 Rage Burst has dropped the PSP in favor of the PS4, and is now a PS4 / PS Vita title. But some companies are still making the switch like Omega Force and Toukiden Extreme, which still has a PSP version even though it came out this year.

Games that would save the Vita...

Gran Turismo portable arcade edition (A version of Gran Turismo stripped down to an arcade like experience, perfect for a quick game.)
Road Rash (This is just my list that would cause me to buy a Vita)
Cash Bandicoot Collection 1-3 HD portable. Hey I can dream...
Some sort of Gradius collection or R-Type or Thunderforce shooter thing.
SOTN 2 (LOL yeah like that will ever happen... but the first one works as a portable game with lots of save points.)

Basically look for games that would make sense on a portable system, conversions from home consoles all have the same problem. It's better played on a big 50 inch screen with surround sound. So if I have to play Borderlands 2 on a Vita or the PS3 if I have a choice I am gonna play it on the PS3 (or even better PC.) Some games can make the jump to a portable console and survive other's not so much.

I think that's the Vita's biggest problem, it's so powerful you can do home console games on the go. But should you or should you make high quality portable games?

Well, we already have a PSP Gran Turismo, which is not an arcade experience, but it is playable on the Vita, and it is a Gran Turismo game. The series isn't as popular as it used to be, and GT games cost a lot of money to make (LICENSES), so we probably won't see a Vita GT, but the PSP one should do, unless you've already played it.

The Crash Bandicoot trilogy is already available in the form of PSOne games, and since no one cares about Crash these days, updating three games would be a waste of money and would definitely not save the Vita.

There is a Gradius Collection for the PSP, which should satisfy anyone in need of that horizontal shoot 'em up fix. Gradius isn't popular these days either, so I wouldn't count on anything new in the series. Not for the Vita, anyway. Plus, it's a niche genre, so it definitely WOULD NOT save the Vita.

Symphony of the Night 2? Right. This discussion isn't going anywhere, really. I feel that people just list the titles they themselves would want to play on the Vita and preface those lists with "Games that would save the Vita are". Unfortunately, this is not how it works.

the PSP Gran Turismo is very poor. I have never liked a single game in the series but a GT for Vita could probably do some damage provided it avoids the issues of the first, such as the fact it had no single player structure whatsoever.

"stripped down arcade experience" umm no that's pretty much the opposite of what Vita needs.

Crash 1-3 remade for Vita might be nice, but I agree that shmups are a niche genre.

Castlevania Mirror of Fate is on 3DS, why isnt that ported to Vita.

It isn't as much the quality of games, as the quantity of good ones and the variety thereof. The 3DS has a multitude of great platformers (Mario 3D land, NSMB2), action games (Kid Icarus uprising, Resident Evil), adventure games (from action-adventure like Zelda to visual novels like Virtue's last reward), RPGs by the dozen (Bravely Default, Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Shin Megami Tensei, Fire Emblem Awakening), fighting games (Dead or Alive, Street Fighter, Smash bros.). The PS Vita has some great RPGs (Disgaea 3/4, Persona 4 Golden, FFX/X-2), has Rayman Legends for a platformer, and Borderlands 2 and a few other shooters, Uncharted but that's mostly it. I can't list more than 12-15 titles worth playing and most of those are available on a non-handheld platform. Whereas, I have over 40 games on my 3DS list. The video listed a few pages back has a lot of truth to it.

Sony and the third party publishers agree with you 100%.

That's exactly why the Vita sells like it has so far.

Stop dreaming they're not going to remaster Crash Bandicoot for a portable console which is a commercial failure and if they did it would be for PlayStation 4.

It would be nice to have Crash Bandicoot remastered on the Vita but it's not happening.

Oh I know none of my list will ever happen, but if those titles hit the Vita. I would run out and buy one immediately.

But since they will not, I sit Vitaless... lol

Edit: I would like a Vita, the hardware is utterly fantastic. I would say my tastes for games are in the minority right now but judging by the way the Vita sells I can comfortably guess that perhaps I am not alone...

Except every HD remaster has a Vita port

Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Jak and Daxter, FFX/X2 etc etc etc.

If you ask me I would love to see the PS2 Spyro series & why not a few new spyro games instead of that skylanders crap skylanders is for babies the original series is better & attracted more newcomers/fans

They are just racist against Bandicoots.... :( When will the hate stop?

Sony and Naughty Dog have said multiple times that Bandicoot reboots might happen, so all hope isn't lost.

You say original series is better, but ask for the PS2 series? :rofl2:
Those were the worst Spyro games in the franchise, the original PS1 series is and always will be the best. Not to mention you're extreme ignorance on Skylanders, since it's actually a nice series and a successful reboot. The Skylanders games make sooooooooooooo much money, more than any of the previous Spyro games. I doubt they'll ever go back to 3D platforming anytime soon, and even if they do Insomniac Games is the only studio who made something of worth.

That's your opinion about the PS2 spyro series which I actually enjoyed I used EVERY cheat they offered & the reason I didn't say PS1 Spyro series is because we already have it on the Vita Skylanders is a fluke why add some dum toys when that series should appeal to everyone instead of babies on a final note I said original games that add on to the PS2 Spyro series meaning sequls now who's ignorant cause it looks like its you.

But you're forgetting that Vita isn't actually an HD console, it's qHD if you want to call it that. Hence why I said "remastered" not "HD remastered".
