Ah, that sucks.
So if Gateway stop release updates or hit a wall in cracking encryption then no more new games even if they're retail?
Basically, yes, unless you want to use a hardmod and go back and forth between latest and 4.X.

What's the process for hardware flashing back to an old nand backup anyway? Maybe this will be an option in the future if it were possible to flash a backup nand simply through software

I'm sure gateway is confident or else they wouldn't be posting an update on their website.

That's not entirely true when comes to Marketing statement... in the background possibly the contrary..

but to keep the current on-going sales not dropping, they (must) released that statement....

I really hope the current gateway card stays relevant for a while, damn this is was a lot easier on ds

A Anti-Pirate protection is successful, if it stops most People from stealing, not if it makes it completely impossible.

PS3 and 3DS are good examples. I guess it will become harder in the future. I can hardly imagine that PS4 and Xbox One get hacked (soon).

I am certainly not missing out on the eShop because there is nothing good on there. I'll update my Japanese 3DS when Smash comes out.

All I see is talk about piracy, did this update do anything cool that you guys could notice?

No. All we know it did is encrypt more system things, breaking emunand, and modifying a file masterkey.bin that's probably not that important.

No reason to doubt them is there? What marketing....it's not like they are a really company.

I'm really annoyed with these updates that just "fixes stability"... I wish they could state what they did a little more in depth like steam does for example.
"Fix buffer overflow from malformed voice packets", "Fix handling of corrupt data during downloads", "Fixed several small memory leaks in the Steam client" etc... Those are GOOD changelogs.. "Improved stability" is not.

If they were specefic people would just start looking for exploits in the older firmwares.
