Then let's hope it's the powerbrick for your sake ;p
I'd test the powerbrick first.
Then you'll have to decide what to do.
Sell it for parts or reball it.

I will probably sell for parts if ain the power brick

you could use a good old fashioned heat gun. i just got one these and was able to repair it successfully. It needed two reflows, after the first one it still had artifacts and freezing. i also replaced the x clamps with bolts and washers. all working great since the change.

if you are going to part it out, i would buy the dvd logic board or the whole dvd drive but im sure shipping to the usa would kill the price :(

if you want tips on the heat gun technique, let me know, i've done at least 10 of them on xbox's and ps3.

Note that using bolts and washers puts more strain on the Mobo.
And reflowing the CPU/GPU is a temporary fix only ;]

Oh yeah Im completely aware of the issues with these hacky methods but it gets you playing for a bit longer ;)

If you make sure the pressure is as even as possible, its all good. But again this is for a *broken* console, not necessarily for a good working console. Without doing any of this, its just straight garbage. With this you get a chance of a working machine.

But I like to live dangerously.

Or, I also heard that if you use flash memory, it can act as more "RAM" at least windows tell me when I stick a flash drive into it.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It can act as a swap drive but that isn't more RAM, it's slooow.
