Not trying to doubt anyone ;), I was just under the impression that OverJoy only mentioned that it could be done in passing, but that such a feature wasn't implemented, I'd say it was nearly a month ago when he told me on Google Code. This sounds like it was implemented rather recently though, so I no longer need to buy the Y-cable extender :P Thanks for heads up! :D Do you know if Nintendont has a reset button combination (like a Gamecube) so it's easier to return to the game selection?

I remember it was said that the front ports only worked when loading games from sd, so maybe it was a coincidence that one of the latest changes to the kernel code made it work. Unless Cyan has been using it like that for a while now.

If you map the Power button in your controller ini you can use it to go back to the loader.

Now that I have Homebrew Channel installed on my Wii U, how can I install the necessary IOS? My Wiimote reads "Wii MotionPlus inside" which means no Multi Mod Manager, and another Wad Manager I tried can't install any of my Wads.

I use WiiMod, not sure if that would work for you. You just need to search in google for a version that uses the newest libogc to support the new wiimotes

Huh, didn't know the PS3 controller can be mapped to do that, I'll be darned :D I forgot to ask him if he was using the USB or SD version, but I'm guessing there was a recent kernel change that allows it...?

I'm pretty sure any HID controller supports the Power button to be mapped in the controller.ini; one of the latest revisions even allows to use a combination of buttons (I only use Select, but some might prefer something a bit more complex to avoid accidents). On the other hand, the GC controllers don't use a controller.ini but have a hard-coded combination to go back to the loader as well.

Regarding the ports support, i don't really know. It's obvious that the kernel for sd and usb are different but they should still share most source files. That's why I'm guessing that maybe something changed and unintentionally made the ports available for both.

Wii Mod just goes blank screen on me.

Did you search for a version that supports the latest wiimote? Try this one if you want, is the one I use and didn't have any problem with it. But I'm using a Wii so I don't know if it's supposed to work in the vWii of the WiiU.

Edit: If I remember correctly, the WiiU should already have the correct IOS, no need to update it.

Games launched from your sd can be launched with the controller in the bottom back or front ports. Games on your usb drive must use the bottom back usb port for controllers.

It's pretty strange.

Have you tried using the front ports with the latest revisions?

Well, you can trust me, I'm playing games with PS3 controller connected on the front USB port.
I tested only the one near SD card slot, but I'm sure the other one works too.
Like I said, be sure to connect it before launching nintendont, or it will freeze (endless loop checking for controller).

I can't test other controllers, I have only PS3 which is HID compliant.

But the front ports can be used for the controller when we are running games from a USB? Or only when loading the games from SD? O.O
I'm confused.

I tested r79 with the front left port with sd

Could you test r84 loading from USB and the controller in the front port? Just to be sure, because Cyan made it sound like it should be possible to use the front ports while the back ports are used for the HDD

Nope, same result. Nintendont gets stuck at checking FS.

So, in essence, that will never be fixed at least, not for a very, very long time. Well, because from what it sounds like, it's not high on the to-do list and would make it a lot easier for people like me to help test on my Y-cable and USB HDD, but then again...never mind. Not trying to be negative, I just don't know why it hasn't been considered.

Ditto.
That is one thing stopping me too.

I have the boot.dol on SD card. (there's no SD version and USB version anymore, it's a single dol for both game's location).

It seems it works with games located on SD only.
but it used to work with both back and front ports, it probably changed. I'll try to find which revision.
nop, it's not working with r42
It's probably the same with r39

Damn....I don't exactly have high hopes of seeing both front and back ports working in newer revisions then....as they are, well, getting better with more stable mcemu, compatability, etc.

Why would the front ports only work when running the game from SD and not from USB?

The fact that Cyan is going to look into it should be more than enough to have hopes of seeing it fixed. It means someone has acknowledged that there's an issue and will look into it, since the kernel's share the source files, finding the problem might be easier than it seems, but that's only my opinion.

Why would the front ports only work when running the game from SD and not from USB?

Because the kernel they use is different, Nintendon't will decide which kernel to load when you choose between USB and SD.

Loading through USB, which worked just fine on the Wii (you can tell if you read one of my previous posts on this topic).

Sorry, I don't have such a good memory to remember every single post in the thread, so I'm bound to ask questions I see fit to help find the reason for your problem.

Have you tried Adeka's suggestion of using an usb loader?
