Courtesy of BrightNeko for pointing this out in her thread, it looks like the Crash Bandicoot and the Spyro series are now all available on the Vita! Definitely great news, since they are a couple of the best PS1 series :yay:

I tought all PS1 classics were avaiable on PSVita/PSP/PS3/PS4.

No. There are quite a few that weren't on the Vita, and AFAIK the PS4 doesn't have any at all. You could remote play all PS1 games to the Vita, maybe that's what you're thinking of.

But these 2 were one of the most requested, and it looks like Activision has finally allowed them both to be on the Vita

Good to know, it seems Sony hasn't managed to develop a PS1 emulator for PS4 yet.
But about these titles, what do Activision have to do with them? I tought they were owned by Universal Studios

Actually sony owns the distribution rights for the first 3 games in both series. So it was completely up to them, not activision.

I was under the impression that Activision had to allow the distribution of any of the Spyro games? At least, that was the reason I had always seen for the Spyro series not being on the Vita.

at least we think anyway, there was alot of rumors flying around in dec that sony bought the IP from activision
but nothing since then, I guess any time would be E3 to reveal something if that is indeed true

You linked it yourself
"Despite the rights of Crash Bandicoot going to Vivendi Universal, Sony still retained the rights for the distribution and porting of the original Crash Bandicoot game series" Vivendi was eventually eaten by activision. Sony was able to hold onto the rights as long as they used them, which as we see on PSN they have. :) Same goes for sypro, they held onto the rights for the first 3.

-edit-
Just noticed the first metal gear solid can now be downloaded directly to the system to x3 couldn't do that before!

I wonder if any other games were secretly released? They don't appear on New releases.

EDIT: if you actually try to look at the games in the store instead of just downloading them from your list, they don't show up. Could be that these weren't meant to be available til tomorrow, or it could be a glitch. Either way, I'd advise downloading all of them now in case it wasn't meant to be available.

Wow. I feel so screwed over. I'm legitimately pissed that right after the sale ends, suddenly these games are compatible with the Vita. They've successfully screwed themselves out of ever getting my money for these games now. I'll just pirate and play them on my PSP instead.

Seriously Sony, fuck you. Don't make me regret investing in hardware and software from your company.
