The ULTIMATE Console?

Since a lot of the games, console or PC based are made on Discs and the future will likely be disc based games or downloadable games. Wouldn't it be cool if there was just 1 console that could play ALL console games?

Playstation and Microsoft's XBox, Nintendo, etc Could still sell their games separately but you could play their games on this 1 single console.

I wonder why this hasn't been done yet or do you think it may ever be done? What are your thoughts on it? Would you want a console like this? I know I would, I think it would be cool!

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo profits primarily from licensing. Having a single console would destroy their business model.

Single console will also gives a single company absolute power over licensing. Only thing that comes from private monopoly is unfair pricing.

For example: EA brings out Fifa for Xbox One, Ps4, and Wii U. The game sells for, lets say 60€. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony each take a little cut from that money, for every copy thats sold. Should there only be one console, then M, N & S would get a smaller cut, or the prices of the games would rise by half. Same goes for the console itself.

That, and a lot of other reasons. But competition is a good thing. It thrives them to create unique consoles and games, in the hipe to sell the most consoles and games.

But the system's manufacturer would have absolute control over what games they allow on their platform, which developers are allowed to make games, and what kind of games they are required to make.

Give it some time, there's already a PS3 and a X360 emulator, all of those consoles will be inevitably emulated. In the meantime, we'll just play PSP games and PS2 games with better textures and resolutions.

The only ones you will find are fakes that need some survey to get the Bios file...

But as usual. It does not run commercial games because of the lack of performance.

Only for PS2 you need a monster PC to emulate that correctly. Let alone have audio without issue's.

RPCS3 already loads a bunch of games (only playable one is Arkedo tho), and Xenia managed to play Scrogger(is that how you spell it?), "give it some time" as I said. And it's not because of "lack of performance", it's because there's are numerous functions that haven't been added yet, like spurs, RSX and stuff.

* GPU that supports Pixel Shaders 2.0
* 512mb RAM

Recommended
* Windows Vista / Windows 7 32bit/64bit
* CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.2ghz or better
* GPU: 8600gt or better
* 1gb RAM (2gb if on Vista / Windows 7)

Nah, the Wii U will come a lot sooner than the PS4 and the Xbox One.
As for the other two, who knows?

It will happen, and when it does it will be better than the real thing.

And yes, I'm enjoying my 201x PSP games.

Well, there are a couple of games without a patch if you're interested ie. FF Type-0, SAO (shameless plug), Digimon etc.
As for translated games, there's Corpse Party, Danganronpa (there's a English patch) and The 3rd Birthday (some people didn't like it, I did).

Got DK for Wii U 2 days ago, hate it. Controls are super lame/slow, worst than the Wii game from 2010. Thank for the PSP suggestions, some are new to me.

Anyway, this is a pretty bad idea on all fronts. It doesn't make financial sense for Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to collaborate on one console, not to mention that the level of coordination required wouldn't be possible. Plus, as the old saying goes, too many cooks spoil the soup. Also, having multiple systems on the market is better for the customer as it fosters communication. The last thing the console market needs is a monopoly.
