SDreader, is it a reliable entry point for hacking?

Hello people,

For the past few weeks, I've heard about a new potential entrypoint for the Nintendo Switch 2, the SDcard reader.
Apparently, some hackers managed to "plug" an entire SSD into that SDcard reader (through some adapters, of course), and the Nintendo Switch 2 actually read it.
According to them, it was a major breakthrough in hacking the console, but they did not develop more about the potential of it.

So I was wondering, does anyone know the potential behind this breakthough? Or maybe the potential is exaggerated?
What kind of things can we expect from it? Is there something similar we got in the past? (Gateway3DS, with only temporary CFW. WiiU Goldleaf (iirc the name), with CFW launched from SD?)
Also, is it some hardware exploit that could not be patched by Nintendo, or has it already been patched?

I'm asking to know if I should hurry to get my hands on one now (before they secretly release newer hardware) or if it's no big deal.

Do you have any sources in that being a major breakthrough in hacking the console? As far as I know Micro SD Express just uses the same protocols (or similar) as an NVMe SSD, so an adapter is all you need. Probably simplifying that a bit but it didn't seem all that major.

Sounds more like just a Microsd/ storage hack, not really a entry way, but who knows. I've seen use of sata/ solid state/ Nvme drives in other devices microsd slot using adapters, so thats not really anything new or big deal.

yea my bad, I guess I should really make a difference between "console hacking" and "console modding".
It said it's a breakthrough in "console modding", the way they can plug an NVME SSD into the SD card reader.

Yeah that much is valid. I'd be interested to see unique cases that make use of it, though honestly at the moment a 1TB SSD isn't even that much cheaper than a 1TB Micro SD Express lol
