Softmodding Xbox, HELP!!

Ok, First time softmodding an xbox here. I have the Mechassault game, the AR memory card to usb dongle but only a microsoft mem card and no disc for it. I don't want to do the hot swap, I just can't seem to find a turtorial that explains EXACTLY where to go from this point. Please help, much appreciated.

You can use an official MS memcard with the MU to USB adapter.
Just download the Action replay software and download the hacked save game.
Transfer the hacked save with the Action Replay software and copy it to the Xboxes HDD.
I recommend the SID (softmod installer deluxe) one (google it, can't link it unfortunately)

Then just follow this tutorial and you're good to go ;]

You could also use USB XTAF or Party Buffalo driver to plonk the unzipped hacked save (UDATA and TDATA folders) on the Microsoft MU.

Basically you just put the modified game save for your game onto the memory card from your pc using the usb dongle, load up the game on xbox, select the custom save from memory card, and it starts up the installer right away. If I remember right xbins.org has the save files you need, and probably comes with a more detailed guide explaining options after the installer starts up.

Ok, thanks for the help but im still having trouble, found 1 tut where he actually used the mechassault exploit to go it and its just not working. Got the file to run linux onto MU and then copied to HDD, but when i run mechassault and try to run the profile that says run linux, the screen goes black, the power light starts flashing green and red and it just restarts the game over and over again. idk what i could be doing wrong, gonna try getting the save files from a dif sight and see if that does the trick, wish i just had a copy of SC since thats what everyone apparently uses

no, its the original with the correct 301 serial number, i finally got it to work, i just went ahead and dled the krayzie ndure pack and didnt have any problems with it, now im just debating on upgrading the hdd even if only to an 80GB for now since thats what i have lying around, but i don't really wanna screw with the hdd's in my pc to do it since all my other pcs are outta commission right now and the one running has RAID and stuff set up and I don't wanna mess something up since I don't know crap about RAID so im gonna see if a friend of mine will let me use their pc to do it

Hmm.
Odd but okay.

Humm...
If you got a 1.5 or below Xbox (you'll have to screw it open and check for any Xbox logo on the chips)
You can flash the TSOP with a alternate BIOS which allows you to boot from CD first (allowing you to upgrade your HDD)

1.0 - 1.5 xboxes got Conexant and Focus scaler chips.

The scaler chip is located just behind the AV port.
If you got an Xbox logo on that chip, you got a 1.6 Xbox, which cannot be TSOP flashed.

Other thing you can do is dump the EEPROM and use that to make a new HDD in your PC with Xbox HD maker (downloadable from Xbins)

No need to TSOP flash any version all you need is Chimp, will work on any version Xbox and you don't need a PC, just put Chimp in your Apps folder and put linux.cfg in the root of E: and follow the tutorial.

I'd... flash your TSOP if I where you.
It makes it nearly "unbrickable"

Like Sick said, recovering it without a flashed TSOP is a hard and tricky process.
Not only that but flashing your TSOP also allows you to use non locked HDD's and boot from the DVD drive (rescuing a corrupted dash)
