I just received my GW3DS and I'm on 2.0b1 with EmuNAND. I can play ROM's fine, but I was wondering if I can update EmuNAND to the latest version to play Pokemon Y from a Cart? Will this affect any features? I assume I will need minimum 7.0 EmuNAND as Pokemon was saved on a 7.1 3DS.

There are two way to update EmuNAND.

1: full
Require Online, and GW 2.0b2
Will update eshop version
Launch emuNAND, go to settings, verify that you have GW3D 4.x written in the settings and go directly to Other option > Update
It will update to 7.1.0-15

2: partial
Doesn't require Online, Works with GW 2.0b1 and GW2.0b2
Will not update eshop version
Launch emuNAND, insert Pokemon, accept the update.
It will update to 6.1.0-x or 6.2.0-x (x = eshop version you currently have on your system).

The issue is that you can't play online with the partial method, because there's a game update available, and you need latest eshop to download it.
If your console has wifi enabled, you can't launch the game without the update.
It would work for all other games without updates available.

if you need to play online (which is the game interest), you should go with 2.0b2, update fully, access eshop, download the update to SD card, go back to 2.0b1 (with 7.1.0-15, but you won't have access to settings/region free). If you want settings and region free for ROMs, you will have to make a new emuNAND and update partially (the game update will still be available on your SD card to play online with 6.2.x).

is it possible to do download play using a gateway as long as the region of the ROM manages the region of the other systems? I remember a while ago when I tried to do MP with mario kart 7 it kept failing, think it was because I had a US rom though.

Roms will not work online no matter the region. You need to use the legit copy of the game and boot gateway classic mode.

I just got my own XL... Simple question: I haven't accepted the Nintendo Agreement thing that blocks certain pre-installed applications.

Should I accept it? I don't want to be pestered about updates or even worse, it to automatically download them. On the other side, I want to be able to check out the gated applications like swapnotes, mii plaza, etc.

when I said download play, I meant the one where you simply link 2 or more 3DS's locally, without the net, over wi-fi like on the old DS back when it was called DS Download Play (one system hosts the game, the others get the data from the host and play, no net needed).

'evening everyone. I just have a few (hopefully simple) questions. I'll try to be brief - first, background:

Had an original DS (late 2004) with an Acekard 2i. Recently pulled it out and started playing a few old games. Bought a new 3DS XL (Black/Black; beautiful machine) for the bigger screen and to play 3DS games, eventually. System came with firmware 6.1.0-12U update installed. I've done some research, but I can't seem to find definitive answers to these questions:

  • Realized that my Acekard 2i won't work with 6.1.0-12U. Are there any flashcarts for playing original DS games that will? I'm was really enjoying Blaze Black 2, and had a bunch of other DS games I'd like to get back into. It looks like many of them will (http://3ds-flashcard.com/31-3ds-flashcart) but I'd just like to verify (also - any recommendations for vendors/card models?)
  • Was considering getting a Gateway of R4i Gold Deluxe, but if I understand correctly, those won't work with 6.1.0-12U or anything beyond 4.5 or so. Does anyone know of the progress being made on exploits for 3DSs with newer versions? What's the outlook? Only information I've found that hints at this is here: http://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/1rqavy/guides_on_modding_a_3ds_to_use_roms/ which mentions they're working on something for 6.x, but it's not very authoritative.
My apologies for being so out of the loop, it's been a few years since I've tinkered around with flashcarts and while I'm all for doing research on my own, I thought it wouldn't hurt to post this here. Thank you in advance for your help :)

1. DSTwo will run on newer system firmwares and is probably the best choice, although you'll need a standard DS to run some firmware updates on it, if it's not already up to date. DSTwo will cost a little bit more, however the card has a second cpu onboard to help with stuff like emulation, and they have hands down, the best support out of the cards that actually run on newer firmware.
2.No progress has been made (or at least nothing's been publicly announced yet) on anything > 4.5. There's talks of poking around with the youtube app to cause a crash, but so far that appears to have been debunked as being a good way to get code running.

The DSTwo looks good, and having an old DS isn't a problem. I noticed that it's over twice as expensive as some of the "similar" carts (e.g. the various R4i models - talk about poor marketing ^_^) though; is it worth it?

Imo, yes. You end up with the extra processing power that I spoke of, basically an entire ecosystem of various apps that were designed specifically for it, and should another update come around for the 3ds (which will inevitably happen) they knock out updates for the card in a matter of 2 days or less usually.

I know it's completely wrong place to ask my question, but there aren't any noob threads in DS forum.

What is it? Is it compatible with 3DS? I suppose, no

If it is possible, I'd like for someone to give a rundown on how to do it. I don't want to accidentally update..

All you need to do to register is to go to nintendo's website and enter your system's serial number after making an account

So is the process of registering a system and games entirely web-based? For example, can I register a buddy's system and get a generic expendable code that I could use on any 3DS? Or does the benefit go automatically to the system the serial belongs to?
