Hacking Will online play never be possible unless they find a new current-firmware exploit?

Or is it possible for Gateway and the like to release their own custom firmware in the future that spoofs Nintendo's current official one to make the Nintendo Network think you have a legit 3DS?

Just wondering, really. I don't know enough about how GW's exploit works but I would like to at least be able to play legit retail games online, for games I feel deserve my money. As it is right now, the choice is having a completely offline GW, or no piracy whatsoever if you want to play online (or am I wrong?).

you mean a 7.x exploit? there is one found (i think) ( a save exploit) but i has the chance from 1/48 to load so its a little bit useless

You don't need the latest firmware to play online, just the latest update for the game. Only a handful of games have updates.

And you can, look up more info about the Gateway, especially the term "emuNAND"

at this rate I'm going to buy another 3ds xl, hopefully the price will keep dropping, so I'll have one to play retail games, and one to play eshop games. I don't want to get 2DS though, it looked incredibly small... or could I just buy a 2DS and transfer my eshop games I purchased in that system to my 3DS XL? (still want to buy ace attorney here)

Why? You can use emuNAND to do all that stuff on one system. After emuNAND came out I haven't touched my other 3DS XL.

It has nothing to do with online passes. Just something about playing a rom that causes an issue when trying to connect to online multiplayer.

well, since everyone said using 2.02b is increasing the risk of bricking, I returned to 1.2 which doesn't have emunand. plus I also read the saves between nand and emunand are incompatible :/

So emuNAND basically just tells Nintendo you have the latest 3DS firmware? I always thought you needed the latest firmware to play retail games online because eShop makes you update to the latest to be able to use it.

as far as emunand is concerned it IS the latest FW, as for online firmware doesn't matter, you can still play online on older firmware afaik as long as no game updates have been released you should still be able to play online on 4.x using retail carts

im just guessing here that maybe the gateway card is a dev flash card emulator, and the launcher.dat just patches the FW to read dev cards instead of retail, which by default are not allowed to play online......not sure if their would be a way to allow them online if this is the case, but i suppose gateway will be looking into it at least

was it the stupid 99% fake one about swapping carts repeatedly or something stupid like that, no doubt made by a 10 year old H4X0R....and the video released said that it didn't work in the video but it does work if you keep trying lmao even if it took a 1000 tries you would film till you had something to show not just go yeah you do this and sometimes a hack pops up with no explanation or reasoning or files....just loading 2 games over and over creates homebrew code

Technically in any game with access to kernel mode and SD card access you could use.
Just find an area in the save that the game will accidentally read as code. Since the 3ds uses arm, just use a branch function to point it to the file on the SD card to run and install an app or something for easier access to loading your own stuff.

Been playing on the PSN with my PS3 CFW over a year now .. times have changed

Yeah well, fact is, you can easily unban yourself with PS3 as their system has been powned to the limit, but it has not always been the case, if you try playing on xbl with a glitched 360, you'll enjoy an insta ban and most of the other well designed systems wont allow you to easily play online if they're hacked.

But yeah you'll eventually be able to play on online official multiplayer services by the time the console gets more and more open even though I prefer the xbox360 method with LiNK or xlink kai which doesnt rely on anything the hackers cant totally control...

Yeah lol I remember getting banned on 3 different accounts because of COD BO or BO 2 I don't remember (too many COD games lol) .. but eventually it worked out for me .I believe we'll have online multiplayer on the 3DS as well as time goes by ..
