So as part of PS+ and the arrival of my white vita, I now "own" Soul Sacrifice. Ive played about 5 of the missions or whatever in the demon book and I think im getting the hang of it. Some of you have compared it to Monster Hunter... it feels more like Gods Eater Burst to me, but thats probably just me.

So about the two options, the blue and the red hands...

What does that mean. I can sacrifice something or uh, whatever the other option is. Is there one I should use more, or should I keep my levels even?

Also, the 5th mission, the boss harpy stage, at the end, you get the choice to forgive or sacrifice. So far the game has told me to always punish those who misused their powers. Why does it give me an option to save her?

(I hope i dont regret geting a white vita, eveyone knows the black ones run faster...)

Okay, Soul Sacrifice for Dummies:
  • Kill Sh*t and Collect Souls
  • Use the Souls to Put Wicked Tats on Your Body
  • Blue Sh*t = More HP
  • Red Sh*t = More Oomph
  • If it's human, Blue Sh*t = New Teammate, Red Sh*t = Kick-ass One-time Spell
  • If it's a Boss, Use Your Eye Thingy to Find Weakspots
  • At the End of Each Mission You Get Offerings 'n Sh*t
  • Combine Two of the Same Offering = More/Higher Level Offering
  • Fuse Two Different Offerings = New Spell
  • Collect Scrumptious Tears Off Your Book's Cover - Use Them to Rewrite S*it in it
  • Use Black Offerings for Kick-ass Spells - There is Always a Price You Pay for it
  • Rinse and Repeat
That's pretty much it, really. :)

You want to level to 40/40 first so you get all black rites then choose whether you want to go 1/99 or 99/1.
I never understood people who make such unbalanced builds - what's the point? When you're 1/99, you have practically no health and when you're 99/1, you have zero oomph whatsoever. I tend to stay close to the middle, but then again, I just like balanced characters. :)

Well you need one or the other to get the trophy and then de-level to whatever suits you best. Personally I went 10/90 and was pretty much unstoppable.
Also you get to see the cool skin that only appears at 1/99 or 99/1.

Put simply, When you fill up the blue or red bar in the counter at the top right to the top, you will level up. leveling up does the following:

Blue bar (Saving) = Improves your health points and your defence
Red bar (Sacrificing) = Improves your attack power

During battle if you save/sacrifice generic enemies, the bar will fill up a bit at a time but doing so will give you small benefits too:

Saving generic enemies = Gives you a bit of health points back
Sacrificing generic enemies = Gives you more "uses" for the weapons since they have a certain ammount of "casts" before they break (think of it like repairing a weapon)

Some story and ally quests make you choose a specific outcome for a boss to progress the story but that is because the book is written in the "past" and you are just re-experiencing what happened, thus is makes sense that you cant change the outcome. As for how you level, thats really up to you. If you choose to level up attack power only then get good at learning boss attack patterns and dodging because 1-2hits will pretty much kill you later in the game, However if you level up defence/life then be prepared for LONG fights because you will do very little damage.

Also one final thing! Add me! My PSN Is Terenigmaa and i play soul sacrifice online quite alot so feel free to join me or you may of seen me playing online before (Teren in game)

When you can pick teammates, choose someone neutral or good because evil people tend to lolsacrifice you if you get downed instead of saving you.

Online multiplayer?
1/99 is for people who are very good at the game and don't actually take damage all that often. Kill before you're killed.
99/1 is for tanks, at least that's what it seemed like on SS forums. I'd say it's mostly useless compared to 1/99.

Very true, also a nice surprise when it happens for the first time. ;O;
Online multiplayer?
Even in multi min/max'd characters have very limited usability - they're only good in their narrow field. I myself prefer to play a jack of all trades kind of a character, but I can see the benefit of using a full-blast DPS character and a tank team*.

*...I totally focus on single player. :tpi: So much content that I haven't touched multiplayer yet. :P

99/1 builds have use in multiplayer as healers or as tanks which can draw the attention of bosses with spells and also use close range weapons to stun and knock over bosses which allows players like me with more attack focused builds to unleash all hell so no, they are far from useless. I wouldnt know how they handle solo quests but dont just think those builds are a waste of time. There are lots of spells that suit that style of play. spells like transforming into golums, causing an area of the level to enter slow motion and ofcourse, the attacking members of the team will die, alot. We need you to resurrect us to keep us in the fight! lol

I'm not saying that they're useless, just not very versatile. :P

Im kinda getting my spell casting butt kicked by my partner in the 6th mission. Oh wait, if i go back and do older missions do those count as uh... grinding?

That's the best way. Also, if you play the easy way, you should find your Magic level will rapidly beat your Health level. Sacrificing in battle recharges your offerings, which is essential.

Don't neglect Mortars or Summons. They do crazy damage. Especially the ones that turn you into a rolling ball. Good for evading.

Use the pinwheel offering that out reaches her ice attack and she cant hit you then just keep spamming her till she dies from a distance, if you need to renew your offerings make sure you do. SS is definitely the best game on the Vita i can't seem to put it down, as for the delta version i hope it doesn't come over here to NA not gonna pay money for the same game with some new shit, i do hope they make a true sequel however. P.S. anyone playing SS add me NorthernNemesis i play quite often.

Neutral Arm is definitely the way to go, you get more versatility.
