Hardware nand flash dump (3ds xl)

1) sorry for my very bad english

in my opinion all sd redear are good for reading 3ds nand

the problem is all 3ds don't have the same nand cheep

to read the nand you have to (temporary) brick the 3DS
you connect the SD reader, start the 3ds, have blue screen(brick), and then dump

i have 2 3DS witch dont have the same nand cheep (great)

the first dump without problem (the SD reader brick the 3DS)

the second refuse to dump (with the same sd reader , the SD reader don't brick the 3DS)

solution
shortcut clock and ground
power on 3DS === blue screen (brick)
remove the short cut
connect the SDreader
and dump

my SD reader is a 1$ comming from DX.....

gateway team want 100$ to unbrick a 3DS
so it's possible
the NAND isn't zeroed ( XAND whit a part of the firmware????)

when you make a god dump( why shortcut) no answer (ack) by the nand to cmd == bootloader disconect the nand

when you load a bad firmware (gateway brick or dump wihtout shortuct) y hope the bootloader don't disconnect the nand (clock)
nand give ack but bad data

Hi everyone.
I'm still trying to recover the brick, and after 3 memory readers, checking my solderings, and trying in both laptop and desktop, I might be making some progress.
Now Windows detects a removable unit but doesn't say the size.
USB Image Tool reads it as Generic Storage device USB Size: 1.000.341.504 bytes
And both USB Image Tool and Win 32 Disk Imager let write the unit with the nand.bin
Problem is that after a while both report error.

For USB Image Tool:
Error: Could not write to the USB device (Code: 0)!
Please close all open explorer windows for this device

For Win 32 Disk Imager:
An error ocurred while attempting to write data to handle. Error 19: the media in Writting protected.

I don't know if this is caused by my SD adapter or actually is the famous eMMC thingy
I put the little plastic jumper of the writting lock in its original position, but since I had to rip the adapter open, I don't know if it's ok.
Just in case I covered all with tape but doesn't change the result.

Hi,

Excactly the same happend to me.
I tried 6 different laptop's and 4 card readers withoud any results.
I also tried the All in 1 Mini Card Reader they said on this forum it's working, this is not working by my to and doesn't sees the flash.
Only 1 laptop is seeing the 3DS in correct size with the internal sd reader of NAND in "disk management".
win32diskimager give me an read and write error.

I think there's an other problem.

Sorry to be clear this was a non bricked 3ds was just showing the model of card reader i used

Did you select a drive? In the screenshot there is no actual drive selected.

I have the same problem, with selecting a drive letter.
This trick doesn't work on a GW Brick.
The SD trick NAND backup/restore only work on a working 3DS and not on a GW brick 3DS.

We must wait for an another solution.

Hello,

i tried USB Image Tool on a normal SDCard 1GB and restore the 3DS NAND to it.
I restart the USB Image tool and look at Device Mode:

Reading and writing the NAND again and all went OK on the 1GB SDCard.

Now i connect the GW bricked 3DS and open the USB IMAGE Tool:

Look like the same as the SDCard.
But Reading and write give me now an error 21: Device not ready.

So, it's not the SDCard reader what gives the problems on a GW bricked 3DS.
There must be another problem.

I am getting the same report as Borg for my bricked 3ds with usb image tool.
I get adifferent error though, but i cannot write nor read.

If even reading fails that means that the eMMC controller is in locked mode, and wont receive/transmit data until a valid key is provided to unlock it or the firmware is gone, but then it wouldnt report the corect size, serial, etc

I guess the reason I was asking is because my console isn't bricked, but I was also getting an error like this and unable to selet a drive letter until I found a working SD reader.

On a side note, the SD reader I linked started not working 100% of the time either. granted, I have been restoring as many as ten times a day, so that might have something to do with it. I ordered a couple more to run tests with.

Is there anyone in the US who would be interested in shipping me their console to see what I can see? I am happy doing it and can, at the very least, use some hardware that I can confirm working for my system (granted mine was never bricked).

Maybe will help resizing the nand... But unfortunatly this will erase the whole nand... If you have no backup it's very dangerous !

Can't u guys try with a partition recovery program to see what it says? Testdisk is pretty awesome in recovering partitions, can see the files in a disk that was formatted, and even useful for changing the geometry of the disk and whatnot. Maybe it can help in giving some more info of what's happening with the 3ds nand chip?

Program sees the 1GB disc but give read and write errors.

So i guess it's the information recorded in the controller chip for the flash memory that is causing the problem? and that can't be accessed by a sd memory card reader...
