Ok, i got myself a few separate pogo pins and some battery springy 3 pins thingies, hopefully the pins are spaced the same as the 3dsxl pcb contact pads or else i'll go with the pogo pins.

So they will for sure give a better handling and contact than bare wires pushing against the pads, but still, any ideas on how to secure them in place? I can see myself holding them in place with my hands, but it just sounds tiring and not so reliable lol

Edit: ok, just opened my 3dsxl and found out that a 3 pin phone sim socket that i took from an old mobile will give me just the correct spacing and it does make nice contact with the pcb pads, now still thinking on how to effortlessly hold it in place ._.

oh tks, i actually read that post, but i din open the spoiler before... only saw the pics now ...

hmmm i do have some predrilled pcbs... maybe i'll also try it...

Another question, since both the usb card reader and the 3ds have their own power source, do we really need to connect the ground wire between the 3ds and card reader? It seems superfluous to me... no?

Update: lol trying to do this without closing the case is too frustrating, tho i think i managed to have good contact using the mobile sim jack thing and tape ^^ just being stubborn i din use the ground wire, got a couple blue screens with different error codes, but having to hold the battery is too tiring :P i'll have to try the pogo pins way another time when i have patience, or, maybe i'll just use the 3dslink, which will still take a few weeks to arrive...

Duct tape?

(Wouldn't recommend for individual wires, but you'll have a firmer contact with the sim pins)

ooh, yeah i can see it but it says it doesn't ship to where i am now, (uk)
interesting that i can see it yet you cannot, in the 'excluded' countries part of the shipping details, france and the uk both are there...

ridiculous, it comes from china, no real limitations are there, the seller chooses to limit it.
i see this on amazon.com vs .co.uk, sometimes a cd from japan, from the same seller, will be cheaper to buy in $USD, and more expensive in £GBP on the uk site, and they won't let you order the american priced one to the uk, even though it comes from japan, and the true shipping cost is probably the same. but regardless of the shipping cost on amazon, the price is different, very annoying.

-edit, this link will work for you, same item - it seems to be, different listing etc.

I just did one of these for another user. Took me ten minutes, from the point of opening a brand new XL (with 4.4.0 on it!)

I guess all the practice helped. ;)

For those who need it done, I am happy to help you out.

Hi. Ive got almost the same bad situation. I lost my solder pad on CLK.

DOES ANYBODY KNOWS AN ALTERNATIVE SOLDER POINT ON AN 3DSXL FOR CLK ???

You would be my hero, because my gateway card (with original gw-soft) bricked my 3dsxl 3 days ago.

You know, I was actually thinking of doing that myself :P

But then again it is not like I own enough spare parts from dead electronics to make them
Maybe I will leave it up to someone else haha

Also, as far as SD readers are concerned, this one definitely works, it worked for me:
http://dx.com/p/kawau-world-s-small...tf-sd-sdhc-usb-2-0-card-reader-keychain-25558
It is about $4, and has a very tiny PCB too. I ripped out its tiny PCB and soldered it to an SD adapter I had already made for my mod, turning it into a usb adapter :D

Now, here is an idea I have, I have not tried it yet, but it SHOULD be small enough to actually fit INSIDE of a 3DS XL (not sure about regular 3DS though). So, using this, and maybe a micro-usb socket, you could make a really clean mod with sd reader and usb port all-in-one on your 3DS XL, making backup and restore as simple as using a single MicroUSB-to-USB cable, as opposed the the rather fiddly messing-with-sd-adapters-and-readers that seems to be the trend atm. That is what I think anyway.

Hello

I'm one of the "lucky" ones with bricked 3ds XL from R4i card.
For three days I'm trying to restore my NAND without success. I have tried with three different cable types, with different SD adapters also. Also i have tried about 6 different card readers and several PCs. The best result i have so far is - on the two of the card readers Windows sees unformatted drive but when try to read or write it says "device not ready". I'm trying with win32diskimager and usb image tool.
The error on 3ds screen when i'm powering with card reader attached to PC is
errcode 00F800FE
00000000 00000000
00000400 00000000
but i'm sure that cmd is not connected to clk
Actually, I'm attaching photo of my current cable with numbers of SD pins that each cable is attached to.

I'm starting to think that you can't restore NAND if the 3ds is bricked from flash card.
Any ideas?

Yes, i did this two days ago :) The problem is that it will arrive after three weeks maybe. Also after trying so many different card readers i really doubt that this one will do the miracle for me...
