So, is the game decently long?
It's a pretty long game. I just beat the main game and I'am starting on world star. It looks like there's more than one special world by looking at the map. After you beat The game it tell you how lives you lost like in 3d land. I lost 265! LOL at least I didn't get any game overs. Thanks to the golden train for stocking me with lives.

Finished the regular game yesterday. This is mostly my 5 year old boys playing and lots of multiplayer but it was over 15 hours to get, I think closer 20. They used plenty of "cheat suits" as well. We had to go back an build up star totals and they are really bad at looking for stars, they bee line for the flagpole constantly and even if I am playing with them it's hard to find stars with them dragging me to the flag pole. We got the secret character unlocked too.

As far as getting easy 1-ups:

Just like in 3D land you can get infinite 1 ups in the second world.

When you enter the underground part you go up a clear pipe and there is a koopa. Ignore him because he chases after you. If you ground pound the bricks on the floor and drop down there is another koopa that walks back and forth (up and down) in a straight line. As long as you keep him straight, I usually go below him and walk straight up, you can jump on his back and bounce the shell against the wall repeatedly. This is the fastest way to get 1-ups. If you let the timer run out you can have 600-700 lives. If you get him going diagonal or anything it is very difficult to get it lined up right again.

But really 1-ups are irrelevant. A game over continue simply regenerates your mushroom houses pretty much as the game saves after every level.

Thank for the tip on getting extra lives. My live meter has three crowns now.

People are beating this game too fast IMHO. Makes me worry about its length, replay value and so on  Like if the price tag can be justified in proportion to how long it takes to get 100%.

They are not 100%'ing it that fast. Just getting to Bowser isn't even half the game. They are also cheating. Multiplayer is cheating, golden leaf suits are cheating, looking up stars is cheating. I play by myself on save slot 1. I play multiplayer on save slot 3. I want a save file that I beat everything on it by myself. I'm not going to look up any stars on purpose. I will probably look up warp pipes. Are there secret levels on every world like in NSMBU? They are too well hidden for me to find.

Just got the game today, glad to know it's not super short :P

Cool, is that the maximum? Anything cool happen when you do that?

I haven't tried to max out.....how many lives is 3 crowns exactly anyway?

Nothing special happens. Mario is already hatless. 3 crowns is 1110. There is an even easier life trick. In 1-2, you can bounce the koopa shell between the wall and the fence. Gotta do it twice, because of the time limit.

You don't have to worry about the game being to short. It a huge game with tons of levels and stuff to collect. I been on the star world for three days, it very difficult. I had to replay a lot of levels to get all the green stars, stamps and golden flags. I also been going back and getting better clear times too.

No wonder the guy at Best Buy told me the game is selling like hotcakes. Glad I got the game today :D THIS is how you make a Mario game!

I wanted a Wii U anyway, but this makes me really excited; finally a good quality game comparable to Super Mario Galaxy. (I still want a Paper Mario game though.) Can anyone tell me if this'll be multiplayer or do I have to find out for myself?

How about you and I rob a bank and split the loot 50/50? :P Or a better alternative is to have a stand and make hot dogs and lemonade. (And Dr. Pepper/Diet Coke, for those who don't like lemonade...)

Count me in this'll be fun
