Hardware Seriously considering selling 3DS XL

First and foremost, when I bought a 3DS XL, I did so because I eagerly awaited the day where the 3DS would be hacked. Given my own foolishness, I updated to 6.2 firmware two days before the Gateway Team release the first of two major updates. This device opened the floodgates to what can be a major breakthrough for 3DS hacking and the like. Naturally, I was annoyed at myself for having updated. While they assured those on said firmware that they would be doing their best to get it working, there is no surefire guarantee that a working exploit will be found for newer versions. As a result, I have cause myself unnecessary amount of grief waiting in vain to use my 3DS for homebrew apps (emulators mostly); I don't care about 3DS ROMs to be honest. Well, this got me thinking, there's no point in me waiting around for the GW team to support 5.x/6.x firmware.

Second, the only way around this is to purchase a 4.5 3DS XL console, but I currently do not have the funds to buy a second system, I would have to sell my current one and pay the difference, which I can't do either. Sure, there's eBay, Amazon, but doing online transactions (selling to people) is something I have a hard time doing, as trust can be an issue. It may not be for a long time if ever we get homebrew emulators ported over to the 3DS.

Last, I hardly use it anymore, I'm not sure why, I just don't. The games are fun, I won't deny that, but, I don't know, I've been playing other games and haven't used my 3DS XL in over a month at least. I guess what I'm trying to say is, should I sell the console along with the games I have? It doesn't help that I can't even see 3D, which is the main selling point and no, I don't need a 2DS TL;DR, I know, it's just been bothering me and I can probably use the money towards something else. I am tempted to sell the 3DS XL and simply stop focusing on the 3DS hacking scene as I have made a huge mistake updating it. I am not trying to sound like I'm trolling, I'm not, I simply have been thinking a lot about selling it with the games. I know people have tried to convince me to keep it, and I appreciate their suggestions, but...I just don't know.

It's not that, it's just, well, I don't use it as much anymore, it's been a long time. That, and I wanted it for the eventual emulators, but I personally don't care about ROMs for the 3DS at all Hell, I can't even see 3D due to a visual defect I was born with. Should I just sell it with the games? If so, where would be a good place to get the most $$?

I'd say hold on to it for another couple months, like 4. If nothing happens then, them sell away.

I paid $180 for it at Gamestop, then for the games in total, roughly $60 since they were bought used. I don't know how much I'd sell if for, but I don't want to lose too much of its value. I just gave myself unnecessary grief and stress in the whole waiting for the Gateway-to-support-new-firmware situation as well as the hacking scene as a whole. You want me to wait some more to see what happens...?

Not for free I'd like to make some money off of it If I'm going to sell it at all, I don't want to sell it at that big of a loss. I have doubts about keeping it, the first time I had a 3DS was when it was released, but then sold that. Later I got the XL I have now, but I'm having doubts once more. That's not the say the games are bad, they're not bad at all; it's just I'm not giving it as much attention as I used to.

I only say wait that much longer because I feel as though the hacking scene may finally be able to have something by then. That smea person seems like they are kinda close to a real breakthrough. It shouldn't be too long now.

You sure? I mean, I just barely started a job and slowly getting income, I can't even get any games for it right now. The thing is, again, I hardly use it, as I was originally holding off updating it to 6.3 in hopes of eventual Gateway updates supporting it, but I'm slowly losing hope on that ever happening and being able to eventually run homebrew apps, but that hope is almost gone. Damn, but it's frustrating. Again, I don't use it that much anymore and I can't even see 3D. If I am advised to sell it, I will make a WTS thread.

The problem with his hack is like the Gateway, only works on 4.5, which I'm not on due to stupid mistakes I made a few months ago. I can't bet on that to be any better since neither hacks are working on new firmware, at least for now. Like I said, there's no guarantee that either will work, and I can't afford a 4.5 version at all.

I hear ya, I get in spots where I can't pick up any new stuff and it sucks. In that case sell it to fund games for another console or pay some bills.

Even though I have doubts about it right now? Or the future of the hacking scene for the 3DS? There's no guarantee 6.x firmware will ever be supported by either Smea's hack or Gateway, and well, I guess it's my punishment for being a negative dick to everyone about my situation. I haven't played a game on there for a long time either. I don't even know how much I can sell it for.

Please read the first post again, I cannot afford a second console given my current financial situation A DSTWO would be nice, but again, $$$ is an issue.

You're gonna be taking a loss regardless of the circumstances, so depending on games, it's gonna be about a ten percent deduction. Two or three games with the console (assuming you have the original packaging) can garner ~$210 shipped... I don't know your circumstances for sure, but do your research.

Depends on game quantity. Do yourself a favor and research prices. I'd say it's about a 10-12% deduction from original prices, assuming you kept the boxes and all. Really depends how much you want for it. It's completely up to you.

Can I ask why? Even if the GW or Smea never come out with a exploit that works on newer firmware? Again, I'm tempted to sell it since I don't use it anymore, I use my Wii U more to be honest. I've given up hope to even see a homebrew SDK for a long time, if ever. That, and I can't even go online since I was originally waiting for eventual GW support on new versions.

That's not too bad, I see a lot of used 3DS XL consoles sold at $180 in some cases; a small loss wouldn't be too bad for me. Add in the games, and should bring up to $210 or so like you said. Really close to wanting to make a WTS thread since I can't come up with a reasonable conclusion as to why I should keep it anymore.


Damn I sound like a loser. I appreciate everyone's feedback, I really do, and no matter what decision I make regarding whether or not I sell it, I'm sure that the second I do the GW will mysteriously support or at least another hacking team will get an exploit working on new firmware. How much could I get for Mario Kart 7?
