I have not heard of Nintendo banning hacked Wii and WiiU consoles. As backwards as some of their online play and estores are, at least they are serious about making the online experience a positive one rather than a cesspool full of foul-mouthed pishers.

This is quite a shame that what happened to you. For me, I only purchase the actual physical copy of that game, so I have it with me no matter what. And things like this arise, I can still sell them or use them if I buy another console. I find it quite stupid of Xbox to ban your gamer tag as well, considering that Xbox one is on the verge of coming out. This'll obviously make you switch to PS4 or go on to the PC side. Both of which are good things to consider, and I love both of them :D

I don't think that there will be a chance that you can get this decision reversed, as you said that not that many journalists showed interest. But nonetheless, keep trying you never know! All the best, mate.

Won't work. What the OP did was against Xbox Live ToS so Microsoft had every right to ban him. It's stupid and overkill, yes... but he'd never win a lawsuit over it.

...but the Microsoft support on twitter said that you wont get banned for downloading free games in a different region, you just won't get any support.

what i would do is one of the two things.

A.Nail Bill Gates To The FUCKING Cross for making xbox systems exist.
B.Shank His ASS in a dark place where no one can find his body.

Gates hasn't been with the company for years. He's retired. It's when he retired that the company started going downhill. But hey, if you want to openly post on a public forum that you'll kill a guy in a dark place where his body won't be found, by all means, all the power to you.

You stole 12 games? You deserve what you get.

The tweet in question was misleading, and that's the only problem with this. However, the tweet wasn't /wrong/, because those games aren't free in those regions, they're unsupported. Oman doesn't support Xbox Live. He asked "Can you get banned for downloading a free game in a different region?". It wasn't a free game in a difference region; it was a glitch that those regions could access xbl at all. You abused a glitch to fraudently steal 12 games, whether you realised it or not. And it's not their responsibility to make sure *you* know whether you're cheating their system or abusing a glitch. If you shoplifted because you didn't realise thievery was a crime, that's not the problem of the shopkeeper, that's your problem, and they have every right to permanently ban you from their establishment.

Your past purchases are irrelevant. If I give £1 billion to charity and then murder someone, I'm still a murderer. They don't want to do business with someone who cheated their system to steal 12 games from them, they have every right to stand by that decision. I don't even like Microsoft, but this is your fault, and someone needs to bring you back to reality on this instead of all this bashing of a company who've made a perfectly fair judgement. If you were such a loyal customer you shouldn't have tried to abuse their system.

You aren't the only one who got banned for no reason... I was banned for using the black ops 1 zombies code for the classic maps I put it in once and the graphics were all messed up hard to explain it was chrome like so I deleted it and put the code I again and guess what? I was banned for too many redemption code entry's or something like that I had tons of games and dlc including $200 in rock band tracks It sucks I know but then you find out there's nothing you can do except start over...

It's still considered a free game from a different region region no matter how you look at it. It is also Microsoft's responsibility because it's their fuck up, not the users. Past purchases are relevant because he still paid for them, just because they don't want to do business with him doesn't mean past transactions will just disappear.

I would have understood a suspension and the licenses being revoked, but both a profile ban and a console ban are way to extreme.

Bottom line, compare it to Steam and Sony. What do they do? Just take the licenses away or suspend you for a little bit. Nothing really big. This is just overboard.

No, it's not. It wasn't a free game from a different region, it was a glitch abusing their windows phone system and then loading the games up in the console's cache in a region that doesn't support xbl. That's against their ToS.

If a shop forgot to put an electronic tag on something and you managed to sneak it past security, it's their fuckup, but that doesn't mean they have to say, "Aw shucks, someone robbed us. I guess it's our responsibility because it's out fuck up", they can prosecute the fuck out of that person.

And he has all his retail games. His DLC's tied to his windows account, he already successfully recovered everything; he hasn't lost anything. It just gives absolutely no leverage whatsoever. I've shopped at Tesco all my life and spent thousands of pounds there. If I go abuse a glitch in the self service machine to get stuff for free, the amount of money I've previously spent is completely irrelevant, because while I was trying to scam them out of their products, everyone else was paying for them normally like they should.

Bottom line, compare it to Steam and Sony. What do they do? Just take the licenses away or suspend you for a little bit. Nothing really big. This is just overboard.

What other people are doing is irrelevant. He's committed a criminal act of fraud and broken their ToS, they have every right not to associate with him.

Uhhh.. no. Not a criminal act. He just broke their ToS (Even though the guy said on Twitter there would be no problem). And I think it's relevant. If Microsoft claims they are meant for gamers, then they should start acting like the companies that actually are.

Uhh.. yes, a criminal act. He committed fraud. He abused a glitch in their system to get free software. That's fraud. That's why they banned the shit out of him.

And the guy on Twitter didn't say there would be no problem converting to an unsupported region and downloading glitched games, he said that there was no problem changing region to get a game that was free in that region. This game wasn't free in that region. This region didn't have xbox live. The only way you could possibly get to that region is to do some shifty account location switching on a pc and then load up the store pages in your xbox's cache, because it doesn't have a working store. The twitter account never responded to the query, "If I abuse your windows phone integration service to set my xbox to an unsupported region then find the old store pages in the cache to download 12 full games for free, can I get banned?", and if he had it would've been a whole different answer. It's not their fault he's unable to differentiate between the two.

It's not a criminal act dude.

Someone asked the question: Can you get banned for downloading a free game in a different region? Lets say I make a account in China to get a free game?

They answered: No but mismatched regions is not supported or recommended. ^ST

If that region didn't have Xbox Live, then there shouldn't exist a market in it for users to access, but guess what, there was. If Microsoft's own support can't answer the question truthfully, then what reason is there to trust Microsoft at all? He did nothing wrong. Microsoft had free games on a marketplace that wasn't supposed to exist, but it did. Someone got clarification if they could get banned, Xbox said no. Bottom line, Xbox fucked up and they shouldn't be punishing their consumers.

It IS a criminal act. Do you even know what fraud is? "IT'S NOT A CRIMINAL ACT BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND".

Are you high? The region DIDN'T exist. There was NO way to access that region from your xbox. As I've repeatedly said, you had to abuse a windows phone integration glitch to get to that region at all, and even if you managed to do that, it still didn't have a working store. You had to load the store pages in your normal region first, switch the regions on your pc and then abuse your xbox's cache to get to those pages. They are NOT readily available from their interface, it requires a lot of fucking around with it.

They did answer the question truthfully. In the specific example he provided, "If I make a chinese account to get a game that's free in that region", it would've been perfectly allowed. But this was NOT a case of making a game in a different region. It was making a game in an unsupported region and then conning the system to get into the store. They got clarification on a /different/ issue to what they were actually doing, and received the correct answer given the scenario they provided. It isn't Microsoft's fault that those people are too retarded to tell the difference between making an account in a different region to get a legitimate game and fucking around with your pc to get to dodgy unsupported regions and then abusing your xbox's cache to download games that shouldn't be available.

Bottom line, that guy fucked up, broke their ToS and committed fraud, Microsoft can do whatever the fuck they like about it.

Maybe in your country it's fraud.

So basically

"McDonalds owns this restaurant across the street but it's name is McDicks"
*Buys burgers from McDicks and gets food poisoned*
"Sues McDonalds"

"NOPE! McDonalds did not own that!"

If Microsoft owns it, and it's accessible, which btw I'm pretty sure didn't require any sort of windows phone or anything to begin with, than it's Microsoft's problem that the page exists. If they don't want it to exist, don't make it accessible, at all.

.. Are you able to string together a coherent thought? That is the absolute worst, most non-sequiturial example I've ever seen. That made absolutely no sense, and had nothing to do with this conversation. I can't even reply to that "example", because I don't know what the fuck you thought you were trying to say. How is an establishment running a dodgy subsiduary with low quality physical consumables anything to do with a company accidentally allowing their software to be downloaded through a series of abused bugs?

They DIDN'T make it accessible. You CAN'T access that through an xbox, you had to access it through their windows phone crossover for the short period of time when they were merging it in with their other systems. And even then, if by some major coincidence you just happen to get that to work, you still can't access it through your xbox, you have to abuse its cache to get to those items. It won't show you them by default. He had to abuse a glitch to get them to appear, after already abusing a glitched region that doesn't appear on xbox live. You don't have to honour a transaction that someone made by abusing two glitches, moron. Do you understand what a glitch is?

Like, I honestly can't believe how stupid and short sighted you are.

And, no, in EVERY country it's fraud. You just don't understand what the fuck fraud is. That's why they fucking said:

The people that were banned had committed marketplace fraud across multiple accounts and multiple regions to get a significant amount of free content.
The specific conduct that caused this ban may include, but is not limited to:

- Promotion or distribution of fraudulent methods in order to obtain marketplace content
- Utilizing fraudulent methods in order to obtain region-specific marketplace content or circumvent regional pricing
- Illegitimate acquisition of marketplace content
- Illegitimate acquisition of redemption codes

To help avoid future account suspensions, please review the Xbox LIVE Code of Conduct and the Terms of Use here:

looks like you know me about as anyone else on this site :)

And no, I understand what fraud is, but clearly me and you were thinking of two different things. So how about you stop right where you are with your "liek omfg ur so dum im so samrt!" bullshit and try to understand where someone else is coming from. It's how conversations are started, and it's how people learn so they don't make the same mistake next time. Or are you part of the internet brigade where "OMGF LIEK EH SAY SUMTHIN DUM AND HE'S SO RETARADEDD DAT LIEK HE'S DUM" and you make everybody else look bad and give legitimate people a bad name?

Woah, doggies. First, let me lay something out.

I understand now that it was some kind of glitch on their part with marketplaces that I guess don't actually exist, but you're making it sound like I did a whole bunch of "shifty" steps to get to that marketplace. On my computer, I made a new Outlook email address, linked it to a new Xbox account and during that step, picked either Oman or Morocco as my location. I then logged in to that account on my Xbox. Those aren't shifty steps, those are the exact steps I did when I first made my original legit Xbox account.

What I don't understand, is how the marketplace which isn't supposed to exist somehow uses cache data from my console? I've never looked up 90% of those games. How does it have cache data for Injustice if I've never looked anything up about it before? Shouldn't the cache data be different for everyone? Why were the same games showing as free for everyone while the rest of the games just gave errors?

Again, I understand why action was taken, but in my opinion, Microsoft had many other options on how to handle this, and instead of trying to keep me as a customer, they basically killed my Xbox and said "Thanks for all the money you've given us over the years for games you can now no longer play, bye!"

I still need to call them and have my credit card removed from the account though.

So, with Microsoft telling me they no longer want my money, what can I do in terms of modding this thing? Is there anything out there that can possibly let my console connect to Live again? I know there is something about playing copied games online by running them through a program and spoofing them to look legit or something. I just want to play my collection of legit games. Although, I don't know what my options are with a banned console.

So far I have found a way to get title updates for my games, which is nice, but what else is out there that I can do?

RGH is the only real solution.
That or R-JTAG (if you got a phatty)

It'll reenable your installed games and XBLA and DLC etc.
It'll allow you to play on a systemlink network called LiNK (you'll need to have FSD installed)
Title updates are being downloaded automatically (you'll have to manually select them but they will batch download) from XBUC.net when you're on FSD as well ;]

Just imagine, if this was an Xbone and they had gone through with their DRM poppycock, you'd also lose the ability to play all your disc based games in single player. You would literally have a giant paperweight.
