Hacking SD corruption - Contemplating Suicide

Hi all, I just lost everything...all of my files, pictures, videos, documents, games "ALL OF IT" after having installed and played super smash bros. clash. The things i had on that card took months upon months to assimilate and some documents where important like my tax return info and now it is "all" gone. What I have left are 3 annoying as @%^&+ mystery files named BM6@, hé8êá@hé.@hÉ, and @hÉ@hÉ@h.É8ê.

Is there any way i can get even a shred of my data back? Even just the file names would help alot. This error occurred when i went into free battle and tried to take a pic (from the clash pause menu), the game then froze and gave a black with white text error message I then restarted the ds to find that the dstwo wouldn't boot, that's when I checked the card and found those three files sitting there like nothing was wrong.

I would recommend the staff of this site to look into it and consider removing clash from the wiki adding a warning tag to the ssb clash program if it is found to be corrupt or unstable. Let this disaster serve as a fair warning to everyone to always back up your data ; ( I am not in a good mood right now at all..

google different file recovery systems, do not put anything else on the drive until you just plain give up. some if it can still be recovered, if one file recovery program doesnt work, try another, and so on. it all varies.

Recuva may be your only chance to get your files back.

I understand you are angry but this isn't necessarily caused by SSBC.
Either way removing it from the wiki is stupid and doesn't prove anything.

I had a hard drive crash before, and learned the hard way that the first thing you do is image the disk before you try running ANY utilities on it at all. Any utility you run that attempts to write to the filesystem may overwrite your data for good. After you image the disk, you analyze the image with different file recovery utilities. I have quite a bit of file recovery experience so feel free to PM me with any questions.

It looks like in your case, your root folder index was overwritten by a bitmap file. Assuming nothing else is corrupted, it should be possible to recover everything except the names of file/folders in the root directory.

Anyway, from my experience, recovering files always seem to result in disasters. Sometimes I recover files I never, ever wanted to, sometimes I get little bits and pieces from files I actually want, but nothing I can work with. you can try a program called get data back from fat.
its what i used on my sisters cameras memory card when the camera when her new camera corrupted it.
it got most of her pictures back(about 95% back)

Probably a long shot but have you tried cleaning the sd card slot or using another sd card adaptor?
If that doesn't work try EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional.

Thanks everyone for your support it is very encouraging to see you all reply like this and I really mean that <3 I didn't expect for anyone to care at all. It seems someone has changed my thread title I can see why you all where worried ^ ^ but I will try all of the suggestions mentioned and "i will" report back with the method that worked (if any) for me, until then im still in a car wreck. Also, I now dislike Geno.

Not true.

I once accidentaly got rid of a source image I worked on for 3 hours.

Recuva rescued that file from my sd card.

Thank you all again, I am in a much better mood and my recovery operations are going well so far though i'm still in the learning stage. So far Recuva is out since i don't have the funds to purchase it and it doesn't work for Linux. I have confidence that i'll soon get my data back.

Recuva may be your only chance to get your files back.

You're right. I shouldn't have posted that, i was blinded by my own crisis. After-all im sure the developers have put their hearts into the game from the little bit I was able to play. However if the program is found to be corrupt or unstable then it should at least be given a warning tag: "use at own risk!" or "this program may cause loss of data and/or corruption". You know, like those over the counter drugs that people like to use j/k. But it could entirely be unrelated to the program and more toward my own hardware like you said. I have edited my original post to be fair.

I C, that makes alot of sense that anything editing the file system could potentially corrupt or effect the whole thing. I was under the impression that it could only edit/corrupt its own space though but I guess that's dependent on the utility's permissions or some other. Anway, im happy to hear that my data may not be gone. Thanks for the suggestion and I’ll PM you if I get lost : ) I'm going to take a break from all this for now im getting dizzy i've never been much of a tech wiz.

I have not. It is almost a brand new card but i'll still try to clean it. I got it a couple weeks ago and went wild pouring various amounts of data, media, and games on it since my pc only has 4GB capacity (due to a disk partitioning problem) and my pendrive was on its last leg so i converted all of the info from it to my new card and cleared it off. I pretty much set myself up for the perfect storm. Thanks for the help.

Even if you formatted recura may be able to help you out. Do a deep scan on the card. I lost data off a camera once and I recovered about 90% of the files
