Download the kernel from the site and just extract the rar to the root of your microSD card and bam! Should work perfectly.
To keep it updated when it does update, either repeat those steps up there or press start and it should open the start menu. In the start menu click on "Tool" and press "A" for Update and it should update the entire kernel through your Wifi.

All you need to do is download the kernel, extract it to the root of your MicroSD card. Then download the firmware and run it from your card like you would a rom or homebrew. It should start the update process, which should prompt you on what more to from there. Then download your roms (don't ask how, were, ect. It's against the rules on GBAtemp to post roms, mention where to download them, or even hint to how to download them.) then put them in a folder on your SD card named really anything, I named mine NDS which is the more common one. From there they should run perfectly on your DSi and you should be able to update your DSi safely after this as well.
