Considering paying someone with some soldering skills to install the NAND dump/flash mod for me... Don't trust myself to not accidentally update somehow.

Tbh you shouldnt pay for that. If you learn to do it yourself, when problems happen (and trust me, they will because that's how the world works) and you don't understand why your screwed. Then you gotta pay extra to idiots who say they have modded 100+ consoles so they will charge a ridiculous price to fix what you've done which in all likely hood was just a lost wire. (Example: ppl on CL selling $5 R4's to unexpecting people for 80+ dollars which is supposedly a "bargain").

Learning to solder on an expensive electronic device isn't a smart thing to do. Sure it could save you money but you'd need something to practice on.

That's really good!

Any one can confirm, the internet function for MH4 is working in the new version or not?

Hi people: Any chance if I purchased a 3DS XL now, it'd have a 4.1-4.5 firmware? Because Jeez, this looks freaking incredible. I've seen some 3DS's on Ebay with 4.4 firmware, but they're 220 bucks.. that's a lot more than a 3DS XL would cost. Anywhere for a 3DS XL with 4.1-4.5? In Toronto, Canada? :l

I didnt mean he had to practice on the console. He can practice soldering old pieces of wire together, a broken radio or whatever. When he feels confident enough then he moves on to the console.

Easily yes. I went to a Future Shop just the other day and bought an XL on 4.4. Just take a look at the box and make sure it's a 2012 and you should be good.

I'm not stupid, and it's not a lack of experience; I've modded most of my consoles, and I've a fair bit of experience with soldering. I'd just rather not risk ruining a £100+ piece of hardware, especially now that exploitable 3DSes are in limited quantity. Ideally, I'd not need to do it at all, and it's only something I'll consider IF my 3DS somehow gets updated, once I've got the NAND dumped.

Thank you so much for the hope <333 I'll be sure to sprint off there when I can.. Jesus thanks so much :D

Good, so not all is lost after all. I might either sell mine Amazon for a decent price (that way I lost as little money as possible) or ask someone who lives in my city if they're willing to trade, but I have to see if their console is in good condition and on 4.5 first :P

You guys remember how they said that the entry point of their exploit was supported at least up to 6.0 (but they just didn't have everything ported)? Since they are porting all of the current 4.5 tools they have to 6.3 (so they can get region free, firmware spoofing, etc while on 6.3 emunand), couldn't they theoretically get their exploit completely running on that version (or at least 6.0) as well?

We don't know the specifics though. You could probably get Gateway to work on the 6.x emunand but on the original I thought it had been patched.

To quote: "We currently have a very convenient and user friendly way to enter into our Gateway mode, while this entry point has been tested up to 6.0 we expect it to be shut off shortly after we release."

Yes, I remember them mentioning that entry point. Whether or not they're working on it, it's hard to say, but no one, but the team themselves, know for sure.

Also if you have the option of doing the hardware nand backup you can backup manually at 4.5 or through gateway and you have a safe backup of exploitable 3ds. I have a interesting issue where i already have a 3DSXL which was on 4.5 and has a 64gb SD Card. I have installed the hardware nand backup and have backups of 4.5 fw and updated to the latest 6.3 fw and can switch between. i use my 6.3(latest) firmware to buy eshop games and have bought quite a few and when i want to use my gateway i backup current 6.3(fw) so i have upto date eshop tickets(games) and all friends list etc and then flash 4.5 backup. I use the same SD card and when on 4.5 my bought games show but say have error on game launch saying i "need to redownload from eshop" my problem is if this new update requires my to update to 6.3 from 4.5 to create EMUNAND of 6.3 i will lose my eshop purchases. I am hoping they release a tool where i can use my existing 6.3(with eshop games) to convert into emunand.
Otherwise only option is to system transfer to another of my 3ds's and then run gateway process and transfer back.

It depends on the way the backup is made. I have absolutely no idea what file or files everyone gets after performing a NAND backup, but if Gateway has an identical way to backup those files, then for sure you will be able to use your already-made 6.3 backup with Gateway.

Don't you think he would find it a little weird that you wanna trade a 6.2 console for a 4.5? Especially if your console is in top shape and his is not. But it's good to see that you finally realized it's worthwhile to get rid of your old 3DS for a 4.5 one.

Not really unless they already know about Gateway. It wouldn't be hard to find someone who isn't smart enough to think that through.

Amazon might be the better route. Or I can ask him if the console is new and doesn't want to keep it, etc.

This thread feels like a pirate crew spotting a bigass golden cargo ship loaded with roms.. I mean rum! Sad but true..

As what I've been reading, isn't this like the similar situation with the PS3 hacking scene? You need to downgrade in order to hack and there's an item which I think is the E3 Flasher and you're all set. So if the Gateway or a product in the future allowed 3DS' above 4.5 to downgrade, then that would be awesome.
