PS3 system software update v.4.50 launches this week

Later today, the next system software update for PS3 (version 4.50) will be available. We’ve added some great features and improvements to make downloading system updates and Web Store purchases more convenient for all PSN users. In addition, we’ve made it easier to move games, movies and other content from your PS3 to PS Vita with wi-fi data transfer.
Check out some of the new enhancements you’ll find when you update your PS3 to version 4.50:

• Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
• Auto download support of purchases made on the Web Store will be made available to all PSN users.
• New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
• Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using wi-fi and ethernet connection.

and maybe other the ps3 is getting

that why there most likely will be a vita update as well
it will update the vita's content manager app and add wifi support the ps3 section

I think Dragon is right.
I'm not much of the PS3 scene but it I don't think you'll have to downgrade to 3.55 to upgrade to 4.5.
Be it Rebug/Rogero/Habib/whatever is made.

The Vita does not support Ethernet cables though. I assume they mean PS3->Ethernet->Router->WiFi->PS Vita?

IIRC, yep you can just upgrade from whatever CFW you're on, to the next one. At least I remember doing that on a friend's PS3. Don't take my word for it, though, I want no bricked PS3s on my conscience

It's just weirdly worded, I assume they mean you'll be able to transfer content wirelessly between a PS3 connected via Ethernet to a Vita, so it doesn't require a wireless connection.

CFW already has that option ;p
OFW, I think not.
The same with MS, it's ads that get money for them.

Nice update, but bad timing. I was going to JP PSN to download Idolm@ster channel, now that means I have to wait for a 4.50 CFW or Rebug PSN patch.

i was of the idea that going down then up ensures safety or that u have to QA flag before going up.
