I never used Pimp My Wii myself and don't know about the bad history or it.

But I am skeptical about an automated program thats trying to do things with a potential to "brick" things
I still remember the Waninkoko instance and as a result, I refuse to use any installer on the Wii unless its well proven with a specific version (yes, I have not use D2x installer yet since I got better alternative)
Look at Darkcorp, the idea wasn't bad but was doing too many unnecessary stuffs by today's standard.

With every new release of these kind of programs, a simple mistake (typo or whatever) in the source code, can cause a disaster. Unless they are well tested before being released.
Look at those noobs who come here asking for help because of ancient/youtube guides, who knows where they will get Pimp My Wii.

So, if you recommend Pimp My Wii, fine, but please at lease provide a link to the proven versions you used.

Back when I got my Wii and tried to softmod it, I find the info on the Internet is confusing and contradicting, it took me a full year to study and learn the principals before I actually softmod my Wii and thats before Modmii appears. I don't think many ppl are as patient as me...

Now when Modmii came, I become addicted to it.

it took me a full year to study and learn the principals
That's why I recommend people to learn instead of using automation.
That's why I would prefer people to teach and explain instead of telling other users to "just use modmii" or "just use PimpMyWii" or "just use xxxxx"
Explain things, redirect users to guide where they first learn how their console is working internally, and they will understand why they are doing things, they will better report problems and get better helps.

For example, take the time to write a little paragraph if no guide exists yet, or redirect to an existing post from someone else. I quickly explained what IOS are here, no need to put a lot of details, it helped the user, and probably many other visitors.

If you don't have time to help, don't try to be the first one to answer "just use ... common tools name" as if it was common knowledge, or like you are bored of answering the same question over and over. Someone else can help better.

Does anybody have a download link to the latest stable PimpMyWii ?
I've hacked my Wii several times an used Syscheck in conjunction with Modmii to make sure everything is up-to-date, but still I'd like to run a scan with pimpmywii at leat once to see if it finds anything else worth updating.
Cheers.

Don't fix what's not broken?
If you don't need something why would you want it?

I'm on system menu 3.2, I don't need system menu 4.1, I don't need korean IOS, I don't need IOS15, I don't need DQX IOS, why would I want them installed? it would take space for nothing.

You don't need to "add missing elements", it's not missing if you don't need them.

I would like to point out that 4.1 is very useful for most people, so generally I do recommend installing it.

You are absolutely right , no question about it, I totally dig the "if it ain't broken don't fix it " type of mentality.
However since I was manually screwing with my Wii before, by installing cios and multiple versions of d2x , and repeatedly updated it with Modmii according to syscheck, then modified some more cios to make them work with RawkSD , I'd just like to run an additional scan with Pimpmywii ( kind of a doctor's second opinion ) to see if there are any vulnerability or redundant stuff left beyond.
Just out of curiosity that's all.

EDIT:

OK, I downloaded the latest pimpmywii ( 3.1 )
To be clear, I'm on 4.2U and according to syscheck and Modmii my Wii softmod is up to date.
I also have an original Wiikey modchip installed and I can play burned games just fine, even GC games with aidio stream.
I simply performed a test with pimpmywii and here's the result :

- First, it asked me if I wanted to be able to run trucha signed games on DVD from Disc Channel ( provided my Wii was before ending 2009 and has a modchip ) , if I press A = No, if B then Pimp will propose to patch every Ios, I answered No.

- IOS 36 has the ES_Identify bug corrected, since a lot of homebrew use this bug to be effective ( like preloader and priiloader ) they might not function correctly.

- No cIOS 222 v5.1 found. This is useful in games with instruments and Mplayer.

- No cIOS 223 v5.1 found. This is useful in games with instruments and Mplayer.

- I don't have cMIOS, Can't play GC backups ( don't care I have a Wiikey installed )

- End of scan.

Here's an automated scan report from PimpmyWii :

That's all. Now should I modify anything on my Wii? I still play a lot of GH and RB games, and I can't remember if I intentionally corrected the IOS 36 bug to run RawkSD.
What would you guys recommend ?

I would like to point out that 4.1 is very useful for most people, so generally I do recommend installing it.
I totally understand recommending 4.1 to other users (instead of 4.3 etc.) because it still has region free for modchip. most users are past 3.2, so 4.1 is the best. It's just that I don't use the system menu anymore except for save/config menu, and 3.2 still has all the trucha bug IOSes without the need to patch them, I'm fine with them as long as everything works.

You are absolutely right , no question about it, I totally dig the "if it ain't broken don't fix it " type of mentality.

That's all. Now should I modify anything on my Wii?
IOS36 is fine, you don't need to patch it as you already have IOS36 patched -> IOS236. It shouldn't ask to patch it if you already have 236
It asks you to update your Hermes to 5.1, but V4 is better, it should'nt recommend to replace all your IOS version to v5. I would recommend having a v4[38+60] but that's up to you.
And it cheks only your "222 not being 5.1", but what stops you to install 5.1 in 224 if you want it in that place? It should detects what you have, not impose slots!
cMIOS is not the only way to play GC backups, it should let you know. In that report it acts like if it was the only way.

You don't need to update anything, except maybe replace your slot 223 (which is weird : Base IOS 75 ?) to either v5.1 or v4
And I don't like IOS with maxed out version (65535), but it's only my preferences.

bostonBC
You see the kind of choice it asks, some of them are unneeded or old.
It didn't detects already present IOS (it only checks slot number with his own slot preferences, if user has already the said IOS but in another slot it suggest to install it again anyway).
It suggest to use cMIOS for GC, while there are other solutions.
It suggest to patch an official IOS (36) instead of using 236 (already present) even if the user answered to not patch them.

Ok, it didn't auto-patch without asking, it's only the checking option. But it's not completely trustable in my opinion, a human verification is still better.
I don't know what ModMii suggest, I never used it either. I think there's a "syscheck verifier", maybe we could see what modmii suggest.

..............
I don't know what ModMii suggest, I never used it either. I think there's a "syscheck verifier", maybe we could see what modmii suggest.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions.
I also noticed I had things installed in several location and that report looks a little messy to me, that's why I intended to fix it for a long time ( like duplicate ios in different slots ).
On the same Wii, with the syscheck verifier in Modmii I get that everything is up to date and optionally I can install priiloader, which is already installed but apparently not verifiable.

I should point out that the first part of the report wasn't exactly copied and pasted, I had no means to to that and I re-typed it using my own words.
Regarding the cMIOS , Pimpmywii was merely stating that it's recommended to play GC backups, I used the word "can't play backups" , regardless I don't care because my Wii is hard chipped anyway.
If anybody with enough expertise could take a look at the full report I posted earlier and has further suggestions on modifications/elimination of obsolete stuff I'd really appreciate it.
It looks like there is too much stuff in there somehow......;)

Yeah, I get that. There are a lot of people who prefer 3.2. The only real downside for brick recovery is that you can't use Bannerbomb, but you can use the Twilight Hack.

Be careful about recommending using old IOS's though, because they won't work on newer Wii's and can lead to a full brick if you use the older version (non-stub, I'm too lazy to look it up) of IOS30.

You don't need to update anything, except maybe replace your slot 223 (which is weird : Base IOS 75 ?) to either v5.1 or v4
It should be left how it is. ModMii does that so SysCheck can identify it. It's actually 223[38+37]v4 (the hermes equivalent to d2x base 56). Prior to setting it as "75", SysCheck just identified it as 223[38]v4, making it appear as if you had the same IOS in 222 and 223.

hermes v5.1 rodries mod (aka hermes v6) can be slightly faster than v4 (particularly with IOS57 as the base), although you have to use a really slow game to notice the difference. The downside is that it has a lower compatibility with HDD's. I did quite a bit of research and testing (well the majority of the testing was done by other people, as I can't afford a million external HDD's) before I came up with the recommended cIOS setup.
