As far as I know you always have to take action yourself before an update is actually installed. It won't install on it's own.

Are you sure about this? Also I'm confused why I should have to do anything beyond disabling wireless. If I disable the wireless connection shouldn't this prevent the 3DS from having online capabilities (which would include updating firmware)?

But when it's done downloading, does it install the firmare right away without your permission?
I have turned my WiFi off on my 3DS just in case (still on FW 4.5.0-10E).

No but it will pester you regularly when turning it on to update, just have to make sure to say no. Irritating but only trouble if you have someone else using your 3DS who doesn't know.

I wonder if there'll be some Gateways for sale cheap a week after they come out and some people discover they can't use 'em.

By the way I forgot to mention that I didn't accept the Nintendo user agreement. Correct me if I'm wrong but without accepting this I'm not able to use spot or streetpass (which would prevent the system from asking me to update, or automatically installing anything).

I would like a flash card adapter that supports DSi homebrews. :gun:
CycloDS iEvolution on a DSi/XL.

Also, BIG question right here:

I know MANY people have WiFi connections, unsupported by DS Game Cards (I think it's WEP and above). I wonder if the blue cart will allow us to use more-secure connections for DS games? (Like, I wonder if the blue cart will function more like a DSi cart, than a DS [original] cart?)
The reason that DS games are limited to WEP is that the wireless functionality is handled by their ARM7 binary, not the DS itself.

Alright, thank's for the answer.
But what i wanted to post, i do think, that when some hackers (or hacker) get's his/her hand's on the Gateway 3DS installer, he or she is gonna analyze the installer, and then maybe we can see what exploit is used, and thus will lead to a softmod exploit.
Huh did i post this before? Deja vu

Does that mean DS homebrews can support wpa(2) ?
Unfortunately no, for two reasons. The first is that the libraries do not support it, but even if they did, the DS/Lite cannot use WPA/2, and the DSi and 3DS run DS-mode software in a limited-hardware-access mode to simulate them running... in an original DS/Lite.

The iEvolution allowing DSi-mode homebrew got people excited, but due to the nature of the exploit there is NO Wifi access at all in DSi-mode...

Fotmating your SD card/removeing it, must stop this from happening? or you might just be able to delete it off the SD card.

I will literally bet you money the Supercard or any other Chinese team is not going to release shit. You can wait for your magical cheap R4 solution as long as you fucking like cause it won't happen.

Dunno how many times it needs to be said - THE 3DS IS NOT THE DS, MAKING A FLASHCARD IS NOTHING LIKE IT - NOTHING!

Serious if anyone wants to make a bet i will happily take your money.

If PSVita can run PSP games with N wireless, why can't 3DS run DS games with WPA2 internet?

I think it would suit better:
Supercard 3DS

Since it would be a "sequel" of DSTwo, the 3 would have double meaning in there #captain_obvious_now_flies_away

the psvita is very different then the 3ds

the vita's PSP mode dose not turn off vita mode things so the PSP mode can still use them

but when the 3ds run a ds/DSi game, it reboot to DS/Dsi mode and can not use 3ds things

The reason that DS games are limited to WEP is that the wireless functionality is handled by their ARM7 binary, not the DS itself.
Opposed to systems like the PSP where all that functionality is handled by the system software itself, thus new games can get benefits from it.

The Wii has the same problem as the DS, there is no actual OS or anything, so old softwares get no benefit from new stuff.

I still don't know whether I should try and stay on 5.1 or update to 6.x... I have a AC: New Leaf download code laying around, and I want to play it ):

If you only care about Gateway you can update to 6. Because 5.x is already useless for Gateway and they said the try to find a Fix for 6.x Firmwares. They never said they care about 5.x Firmwares so you would need to update anyways when they do find a 6.x solution.
