@mkdms14
Thanks, it is the choice of Steins;Gate after all.

@benhofb
It is still ongoing, somewhat slow though. Still debating whether to translate D-mail and those forum messages. I know it is essential part for dialogue choice but as they are stored in different format, it might requires new tool.

EDIT: I have decided to redo the script, if anyone interested in helping (all text are very similar to other version so it is just modifying and editing work) just let me know.

EDIT: And here is the translation website

Yea if only we could find and shift these pointers to another address, everything would have been perfect.

Anyway, I will just add the padding for shorter sentence and trim those extra bytes out. Translation of the game prologue is done by the way, you are welcome try.

index.php

Those spaces are padding.

index.php

An incomplete sentence.

In case you are wondering how it would looked like in general;
index.php

Patching instruction (only prologue)
1. Download xdelta.
2. Get the translation patch here
3. Put clean iso, translation patch and xdelta to the same folder.
4. Run xdelta -d -s CLEAN_ISO_NAME.iso patch.xdelta OUTPUT_ISO_NAME.ISO
5. Be prepared to witness incomplete sentences !

ーーーーー

Hello, I'm a bit confused with the xdelta stuff. I used xdeltagui and there are tons of errors when im patching the game.

I would love to hear if you get any progress on the sequel. I finished reading the translation of the PC version of Steins;Gate earlier this month, and I absolutely loved it.

my problem is I can't run xdelta. When i double click it it opens and closes right away. Anyone, please help me. :cry:

Because you did not pass any parameters by double clicking it.

Short ver.
For patching you will need three params:
'-d' patching declaration
'-s FILENAME' source file pointer
'FILENAME' output file pointer

Long ver.
You will need to put all files in the same path, say you put them into X:\
Next is to run cl by pressing 'windows button'+'r' and type in 'cmd' to run.
Navigate cl to your path, in this case enter 'X:'.
Type in 'ls' to list the files and confirm that you are in the right path.
Finally run the patch by executing 'xdelta -d -s original_file.iso mypatch.xdelta output_file.iso'

I would love to hear if you get any progress on the sequel. I finished reading the translation of the PC version of Steins;Gate earlier this month, and I absolutely loved it.

It is being work on, though not much to be done until its prequel is finished.
Still trying to make an automatic translation script at the moment, which would benefit both version if it actually works.

I cannot express how excited I am about this. I've been wanting this game for so long. If I can have this, then all I'll need is Senkei Kousoku no Phenogram then I can die a happy fangirl. Thank you soooo much for taking on this project, Rintalie!

Are you still working on this?

Holy necromancy, Batman. Totally forgot about this. Riku, you should talk to the guy who did the Final Fantasy Type-O translation. He's been looking for something to do.

steins;gate (pc) will be the next visual novel i plan to read after danganronpa 2 (or i/o revision II), but i´ll hope that someday someone will translate also the portable version of it... i´m also surpirsed that no company picked the vita versions up so far, since vn´s are becoming slightly more popular in the west and steins;gate is one of the better known in this genre :o

all steins;gate titles (or all science adventures series) novels and ever 17 (or all infinity series) would be awesome as an english portable translation :D so i wish good luck with this one o/

If you haven't read the few recent posts, someone has taken it upon themselves to caption the PSP sequel/spin-off of Steins;Gate and post it in the form of youtube videos. So just watch them on your Vita!

Also, make sure to play the fan-translated version of Steins;Gate, not the official, recently-released one. I've read that they handled the Japanese puns poorly, and if the English dub is any indication, it won't be as good. Mayuri just isn't the same without "Juicy karaage number one!"

Regarding the videos, the guy has released 9 videos of Steins;Gate in the past two weeks. I don't plan on watching them until he finishes, so it'll be just like watching a visual novel with auto-read on.

I have techinacal part figured and can inject text with no restrictions what so ever (same applies to second game as well). Here's POC:
http://www.firedrive.com/file/88B298D926EB5DB8

Not really interested in doing this all by myself though.

Forgot to mention in this thread, but last year I've archived Riku's Steins;Gate PSP translation source code, though purely for historical research on the PSP Translation patching scene (since the PSVita English version was just released, go buy that).

https://github.com/BASLQC/steins-gate-psp-patch

And yes, today there was someone who did feel like using it: to translate to languages other than English, which is a valid use of this code and his time. I've written up a quick and dirty explanation of the source code for him here:

https://github.com/BASLQC/steins-gate-psp-patch/issues/1#issuecomment-132367951

I've figured out everything else, from how the script is compiled to how it is injected and where to do it.

The only roadblock is: How the heck do I decompile the binaries into ATLAS-compatible scripts in the first place? I assume we use Cartographer, but how do we figure out how to configure that? Or are the pointers found and written down by hand using a hex editor?

I believe he did not gave you the parser :) For sure he did not made this manually.
Thanks for the info. I'll ask him, but if all else fails, how would I parse that kind of binary file (perhaps using Cartographer) to create an ATLAS-compatible script to inject Shift_JIS text? I seem to need configuration options, but how do I detect those?

This information would be very helpful for any other prospective modders, such as a colleague that wants to translate Steins;Gate or even Hiyoku Renri no Darling to French on the PSP.

The binary files in question are here: https://github.com/BASLQC/steins-gate-psp-patch/blob/master/data/SCENE00.rar?raw=true
