Hardware Fujitsu Lifebook t5010 Will Not Turn on.

Hello all, my sisters Laptop doesn't seem to want to power on. It's a Fujitsu Lifebook T5010, battery is fully charged (shown by the battery indicator when the battery is removed and reinserted) and I get nothing when I press the power switch. I've tried with the battery unplugged and the AC Adapter plugged in, I've tried with just the battery, and I've tried with the battery and AC adapter. When I flip the power switch, absolutely nothing happens. The HDD doesn't spin, no beep codes, no lights anywhere. I've checked the RAM, tried different sticks I know work, and still no power. Any ideas?

That would probably be a last resort thing. Don't wanna fucks around with it too much, in case I fuck it up.

If it's not reacting to the power switch there isn't much you can do without taking it apart. Technically you could take the battery out and remove the CMOS battery, then wait a little and insert it again - this will reset BIOS settings to factory defaults in case it's a firmware issue.

I have seen switches fail before and you are pretty much at that stage. I am in a bit of a rush so I am not about to look up a repair manual for the thing but a basic image search says it might not be the worst (most of the time it is probably the easiest thing to remove on a laptop after the DVD drive and battery).

Fixing it on the other hand might be a decidedly more tricky affair unless you can find a whole assembly for buttons in question (or are cowboy enough like me to just use wires instead) or have lucked out and it just a bit of grit/misaligned pad somewhere.

If it's just the switch, then it's not too bad. If it's, for example, the PSU... or a fried motherboard...

How old is the laptop? Is it still under warranty?

It's only a few months old. Not under warranty anymore, unfortunately. I suppose I'll take a look at the switch then, see if there's anything I can do with it.

It's a common failure on many notebooks.

Just took a look at the power switch, nothing looks damaged physically. Checked all connections and they appear to be fine.

I did read it and I stated that it was a common issue.
It may indeed look fine and the plug can still be inserted and removed from the jack normally,
the only way to tell if it is broken, is to disassemble the unit and check the solder connections with a multimeter.
Chances are that even if that is not the issue, you will have to disassemble the unit anyway.

If the battery is fully charged the state of the transformer and jack should not matter unless it somehow shorted out.

Anyway back on topic when you looked at the switch (I assume it was a little surface mount thing with a plastic pole to push it from the case) did you press it without the plastic case and also did you try jumping it manually with a wire -- those little switches are not usually the highest quality things.

After that we start to look at more troublesome things like dead mainboards and whatnot.

******FIX***** hi, i know this an old topic, but i have just had the same problem with my lifebook............ this is what fixed mine
first disconnect power cable and take out battery.
then open big panel at the back, take out the round battery (Found inside),
hold the power button for a minuet to ensure all power is discharged.
after a couple of minuets put the small battery back in and the back cover on. put the big battery back in and it worked for me....
