Hi, I need help playing HOTD Overkill PAL on my NTSC Wii, and HDTV with AV cable (red white yellow). It's about disk game btw.

I can play Dead Space Extraction PAL on Neogamma but when I try the same thing for HOTD Overkill plus using Gecko from an SD card with force NTSC, I got a green screen instead. There's also no signal detected when I use either NTSC 480p/i (can't remember which) on Neogamma.

Thanks for your help!

Why don't you get the NTSC version and load it with USB Loader GX?
You just need a USB Stick or Extermal HDD.

Unfortunately I don't have time or passion to digitize my games ;-) and I bought the PAL disk because it's dirt cheap. See, the thing here is I'm able to PAL Dead Space nicely but the best I can get so far for PAL Overkill is a flickering screen.

Update: Apparently, the best so far is using Gecko with Force PAL60--which is unexpected. Don't know yet how PAL50 will do or how Neogamma's PAL mode etc. will do. I just finished 1st chapter and everything looked fine...

...except when I quit to Wii menu, no signal is detected!

Update 2: Yep, with AV cable, the best way to play PAL HOTD Overkill is to force PAL instead of NTSC. Strange, considering my Wii is NTSC. I did this on Neogamma r9 and Gecko 1931. WiiFlow is very vague but doesn't need tweaking, just play the disk.

But after quitting the game, no signal is detected so I just need to press the Wii power button, and restart if needed.

If your tv support component get the cables, it will solve your problems.
If you do not have those cables or are unable to use them, you are out of luck I'm afraid.
It seems your tv does not support the coverted signal, and this game cannot be forced to NTSC like Deadspace.

Thanks! If I got a component cable, which setting(s) in Neogamma, Gecko etc should I use?

Just play it in PAL 60 or PAL 480p.
Mind that your TV must have component inputs.
And change your video settings on your Wii console to edtv/hdtv 480p before running the game from gecko.

In regards to neogamma and gecko:
You'd better rip your game, put in on a usb stick and try one of the various usb loaders.
Loading times are much better from usb especially with this awesome game.
You can rip your game with a usb loader right to your stick/hdd.
You will need to install a cios ( use modmii by XFlak to get the files http://modmii.zzl.org/ ).

Many thanks for your help! Concerning the component cable, I'll come back later when I get one.

I personally think loading time isn't an issue at all, not even the slightest. Wii's already fast with the disk--even faster than PS3! (There are lots of factors here.) There'll be much more hassle in setting up ripped games than not to. :-D

Still, I'll keep your neogamma/gecko tips in mind. ;-)

Actually when you have a cios installed it only involves placing the usb loader app on your sdcard/hdd.
Games can be easily ripped using your usb loader.

That easy? Interesting, hopefully it is. I still don't dig (yet) doing these tweaks if only I'm the only one who understands how Wii stuffs work in my house. Ripping sounds good though if the disks ever got lost/broken.

So,
1. How is it I download/install cios? I'm new to modmii
2. How big is an average wii game?

Thanks again.

1. Modmii is a pc program wich helps you get the needed files and takes you by the hand in hacking your Wii from bottom to top.
You should tell modmii your Wii has never been modded.
Follow modmii and follow it's generated guide afterwards.
Follow every step to the letter.
Modmii will provide you with all the tools and files very easy.

You could also download a cios alone using modmii alongside a wad manager ( to install your cios )
I recommend starting modmii classic and choose the cios download tab.
Download and install the modmii recommended cios ( rec )

Just take your time and read carefully.

2. It really depends on the game.
Smallest game is probably mario10th anniversary ( around 30 Mb )
There are a select few dual layer games that are around 7~8 Gb.
generally speaking most games are around 2 ~ 3,5 Gb.

Once again, thank you so much. I think I may forgo ripping because I don't have any free, large USB/HDD. Even the largest SD is just 512 Mb. Right now, reading from the disk is simple enough--no need for tinkering.

P.S. Ha! Just realized my thread is in the wrong place. I had no idea that backup loaders ALSO include playing from the disk aka DVD. Thought backup meant 'ripped games' :-D

Disk backups tend to be a lot slower than retail disks. 3 speed opposed to 6 speed
I think you will not have a problem since you are trying to load a retail PAL copy.
You should know that not all Wii can load disk backups.
As a rule, any Wii after 2007 or a Wii in red/ black cannot read them even when modded.

I'm back! And here to summarize:

* to play retail PAL HOTD Overkill on NTSC Wii using AV (red white yellow) cable, just play the disk. You can force PAL but that's redundant because the disk is already PAL.

* quitting Overkill to the Wii menu may cause signal lost due to AV cable incapability to properly channel signal...thus you need component cable for stable, clear and clean signal.

* if using component (red green blue + red white) cable, just play as usual, no need to adjust anything. This also works on retail PAL Dead Space Extraction--which before this, is playable when forced Wii/NTSC and has no lost signal problem when quitting like Overkill.

* don't forget to select HDTV/EDTV resolution in Wii settings when using component cable. Don't know if it's just me but I just realized that empty channels are showing static noise after plugging in component cables.

* moral of the story here: try playing PAL disk on NTSC Wii without forcing alternative video mode (ie using native/disk video mode) first and see how it goes ;) and buy a component cable. I got mine for just £2.61.
