Considering the clues we have about PS4's hardware, do you think we could have advanced emulators running on the system? PS3 already emulates SNES really well; I'm not an expert, but I guess the PS4 could easily handle N64 or PS1.

As for the latter, do you think Sony will finally release an "official" emulator running in 1080p or they'll just offer PS1 downloadable games in their native resolution like the PS3.

I know nothing about technical stuff, but I guess it's common logic since PS4 has monster hardware.

The question is, will Sony offer their PS1/PS2 games in HD or will they go with native resolution?

I believe we will see a lot more PS2 classics than on PS3.

About unnoficial emulators,
I believe we may see GC, Wii, PS2, PS1, N64, SNES, Genesis and some other emulators.

PS4 is a high end PC so it should do anything up to Wii, just about.

Wow, wow, wow - let's slow down for a moment.

The Jaguar does provide a significant performance improvement over the Bobcat and it does have 8 cores, but it's still a low-power Netbook CPU - it does not have a whole lot of processing power compared to desktops, and emulation requires a lot of CPU horsepower. Let's not get too enthusiastic until we get to see proper benchmarks of the final hardware. ;)

Or rather, let's not get enthusiastic before the PS4 is actually hacked and open...

I don't think Sony will do the same mistake twice ... Or maybe they will.

The same mistake? It took 3 years to "jailbreak" the PS3 via OtherOS glitching and almost 5 years before the first CFW's were released, it was "the most secure" system of the seventh generation.

Oh, so it's not a mistake then ?

Every system is hackable, no matter how you slice it. Every system has its vulnerabilities. It took nearly 5 years before the exploits found became usable for End-Users in any shape or form - that's hardly an "Epic Fail" result when it comes to hardware security.

Notice I never ever used the term "Epic fail" anywhere, though.

At the end of the day, the system was hacked by a mistake, and I don't think Sony (or any other company) will let the same mistake hack another console for a second time with the same method.

Just for the sake of a comparison, the first Wii modchip surfaced after a year, then came the Twillight Hack after 2 years. The first 360 modchip was released after a year as well.

While the same "method" won't work on the PS4 for obvious reasons (entirely different OS and hardware), it's safe to assume that the system will be relatively secure.

if its emulator that was officially created by Sony (by means of Classics in PSN Store) this would be possibly:

- PS1 Emulator
- PS2 Emulator
- PSP Minis/Remasters (In PS3 hacking, its a official working PSP emulator)

But for sure, the things wont get emulated on PS4 is PS3 games since it uses Cell architecture, we can think that even the highest spec of computer today that is x86 based processor (well the PS4 is also x86 based too) none of them were able to emulate the PS3 environment, not even the BIOS. Although its possible to play PS3 games on PS4 by playing it though cloud streaming (you can simply imagine that you play a game streamed like in a live broadcast online where the game processed in cloud server instead of processing it on your PS4, more likely the game is streamed like a movie in Netflix) called Gaikai. But this would required gigabit connection at least and a single millisecond delay on network connection means everything.

N64 and PS1 worked just fine on Xbox original, so a PS4 would have no problems playing it if emulators were created. However, I was actually hoping for some emulator news, lol, not just speculation.
