Just watched the video and by the sound of things this is NOT grid but a cloud hosting service they will sell to third parties so it will run remote on their servers, not on your home computer :(

That's a slight misconception. Their cloud based 2U servers are called GRID servers.

Shield can still stream direct to a PC via a Wifi connection, though. nVidia calls it "Play PC". If Shield can do it, there will be other Tegra-based devices that can do it as well. If the OUYA can't, the OUYA 2 should do it. (Remember that nVidia provided some of the venture capital to OUYA.)

Please enjoy not gaming when your Internet is down. :D

EDIT: I like how "Always Online" is a terrible concept but "streaming to the OUYA" is a godsent.
EDIT2: "Amazing Gaming. Anywhere.*"

*requires fast-speed broadband connection, you will only be able to play at home.
well, comparing a 99$ console to a 500$ console that can play the same games? yes, it is godsent

As far as the "Always Online" thing goes Let me be clear and state that I believe that Cloud gaming should be a CHOICE, a supplement and a "option". The way Microsoft is going about things is bullshit. The way Sony is handling cloud gaming is reasonable. Cloud gaming has its uses, especially when you can get certain games on the cheap.

Hell, only two of my OnLive games were purchased at the nearly 19.99 dollar range. One was at 14.99 (but came with a FREE micro console), one was free and the other 14 were between 5 and 10 dollars. That's cheap gaming! That's gaming I can deal with. I've outgrown paying 50-70 bucks per game. Some of us actually have bills to pay.

Frankly, people need to stop dissing cloud gaming. You cant use it because your connection sucks? Get a new ISP, pay for faster speeds. Hell, the minimum for OnLive is 3 Mb/s with actual normality being at 5 Mb/s which in some areas you can get that speed for around $35 monthly. People should really shut the hell up about cloud gaming until they have actually tried it.

ITT LightyKD misguided and highly flawed Ouya propaganda.

The shield and the Ouya are aimed at a completely different demographic of gamer. The shield is a high end portable device aimed at core gamers, the Ouya is a low end home set top box aimed at casuals. Just because they both are capable of streaming games does not mean the cheaper device is superior, or that people interested in the shield will suddenly switch interests to the ouya.

-because most indie games are as casual as "Wii Play" and "Imagine Babies". Really? Ouya is aimed at gamers in general. Don't justify your preconceptions by using buzzwords that are 2006 old.

Yes, it is nice as a option ,but I rather actually own my games. They are only so cheap because they can go proof, at any second notice. At least when I buy a game, I can play it far into the future. I like the idea of using the cloud as a option to add to the game rather than be the game itself.

The Ouya and Shield are not in competition with each other. One is a high end handheld with the latest tech that costs $350, the other is a set top box with outdated tech that costs $99. They are CLEARLY aimed at different markets, like it or not. In fact this is probably the first time I have ever heard anyone suggest that they are in competition with each other. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, you show that every time you make a post. And it's sad that you took some positive news about the Ouya and added your own nonsense uninformed spin on it which doomed the discussion from the very first post.

All in all, the Shield is superior in every aspect other than the price, it can do everything the OUYA can except better (the GPU alone is over 7 times beefier) and it's portable so it can be taken with you anywhere. Moreover, since it has a touchscreen, it will not require separate builds of games that require one like the OUYA will (since the developers will have to re-work their games to support the touchpad instead). All in all, the higher price is entirely justified.

I love how people are trying to make it seem like I said that Shield was in direct competition with Ouya. In NO. Way did I say that. I just made a point that from a consumer side of view (NO not core gamer), the Ouya would be the better buy. Let's be frank. Shield, just like the chromebook Pixel it's a "Blue Sky" venture. It's a device that isn't really aimed at the mass market and one that is supposed to entice developers to get to work. Seriously, if some of you guys are going to Ouya bash, don't be cowards about it and do it under the guise of "protecting the shield" (how ironic :P ). Have some balls and just say what you're going to say.
