Couldn't a DSmode homebrew be used to copy roms from the SD slot (up to 128GB SDXC) to the microSD inside the flashcart?

Then reboot in 3DS mode and play.

Slow way to switch the rom but still better than carrying around a bunch of microSDs.

That would not require running unsigned 3DS code.

Unless the compatibility page for the 3DS is wrong, the max the SD slot can carry is 32GB SDHC. That could just be a recommendation, though. But yeah, that's pretty much what a lot of people have said, but there are tons of different things that could work in theory. We won't know until we get a cart to dissect.

Users in forums reported the 3DS can read 128GB SDXC cards and showed screenshots of available space.

Yeah we won't know until it's dissected, I was asking in theory and not necessarily about this flashcart in particular, but any act_as_the_real_gamecart-style flashcart and in an infinite time frame (no carlton dances then if THIS cart can't do it NOW)....in theory, given DSmode HBs can read/write slot1 and SD slot, there's nothing (or, is there?) stopping people from doing all the "rom file management" (delete current rom in the microSD and replace with other rom) stuff in DSmode, rebooting and playing in 3DS mode...so I don't get why a user in the last few pages was all like "IMPOSSIBURU you need a fucking way to run signed 3DS code"...hence the question.

The DS has no SD slot, so DS mode on the 3DS has no SD-slot access.

The only storage DS-mode stuff has access to is the save data for retail games, and the MicroSD slot on flash carts. The original DS had no usable storage to speak of.

i lost track of this thread and dunno if the price has been mentioned since i last checked , however looking at the UK listed reseller on the Gateway site , they list teensy.co.uk as the only UK reseller and they are listing it @ £56 . Kind of a specific price to use for a place holder , did the price get announced ?

I guess they can:
  • Put a physical switch on the cart to switch from DS to 3DS mode.
  • To switch 3DS games, boot in DS mode, run app to switch games on the card, boot to 3DS mode. This is somewhat similar to how I swap games into my slot2 cart.
So basically this card + a DS2.

The first post was updated with information from the official FAQ, including:
- Suggested Retail price?
About $80/€65
€65 is roughly £55, so their price seems about right accounting for the fluctuating exchange rate.

So far, the suggested price is $80, and 56 pounds is $88, which isn't that far off. The price may change, however.

if a trusted manufacturer is working on a 3ds flashcart that would be even better. That way we are not so paranoid with all the "what ifs"
For instance if supercard was to come out with something... we know how good they have been with support. On the other hand right now we are not sure of anything with gateway. At least they are being honest and not promising anything...

Id wait if money is tight but if you have the money to spare and you are desperate then go ahead and buy, I just think with time something better will come out.

you are right.
but gateway might have a history in the scene that they do not want to reveal.
newcomers are hard to trust but not to be not trusted after they show the product.

Ok. Didn't think of it (that the SD was a DSi thing).
That sucks.

yeah the dsi also has sd slot ,i forgot about that, obviously dsi mode can access the sd slot, but not ds mode ,the question is ,is dsi mode and ds mode all in one mode on the 3ds ? or are they separated into 2 different modes? and did the the cyclo ievolution card have access to the sd in its dsi mode? i think it did , but now the cart is blocked ,but how hard would it really be to get back dsi mode access on dual 3ds/dsi mode card? there was no real interest in dsi mode so maybe that was a big reason why it was never really updated

I received a new Email by Gateway.

My question :
"If the Gateway 3DS will get a UI,is it possible to Play more Games with only ONE SD-Card?"

Gateway3DS' Email :
we are working on this, it will happen at some point. Just it is some work, so
all new features, including this one, will come in future updates at later
dates.

I was just thinking about this. (Theorically speaking) We may not be able to load eshop games (mutant mudds, pushmo, mario minis on the move) for 2 reasons. 1) This is a 1:1 flashcart in which you flash an image game into the sd, the sd needs to be flashed at the same size of the game (512 mb, 1024mb, ......). but the eshops game does not have this feature of game carts, they are stored in the sd with the purpose to fill the less space they possibly can. 2) (I'm not sure about this one) Game cards have a code [chip] that tells the 3ds which region the card is from, it tells the 3ds that it is indeed a gamecard, i don't think eshop games have that ''code''. making it unable to run eshop games so maybe we wont even be able to play retailer games downloaded from the eshop (like resudent evil).. I don't know if I explained myself well Again this is all theoretical and we will not know until we have the actual card in our hands.
Edit : Stupid 3ds browser with stupid qwerty keyboard ._.

We can't play eShop games because each download is tied to a specific 3DS. We'd have to have an actual exploit in order to do so.
