I have a PS3 with 3.55 Kmeaw installed. I want to upgrade to the latest cfw. I really haven't used my PS3 much but think it's time to upgrade. The guide I followed to softmod didn't have me make a NAND backup, so I probably want to do that but I looked in multiMAN and cannot find the option to make a NAND backup. And, I'm thinking there is something else I should have done but cannot remember what it is called, it has to do with being able to downgrade cfw without bricking, if that's even an issue anymore I don't know.

What I want to do is just reinstall the 3.55 ofw and then install the newest cfw, is this the correct way to do it?

You're talking about enabling QA. You don't have to downgrade to enable it, you can enable it on 4.xx CFW using the Rebug Toolbox.

I remember you saying in another thread that you upgraded to Rebug 4.41.2, so just enable QA from the Rebug Toolbox. You can also still dump your NOR/NAND flash for a backup.

Everything you need from dumping your flash to enabling QA is here:

Thanks for the reply, but I have not upgraded firmware yet, still using Kmeaw 3.55, you must be thinking of that reply I gave to the other user that updated to Rebug. I can update like I posted above, re-install 3.55 ofw, then install the updated cfw? Then after that I can dump my nand and enable the QA flag.

Another question, will installing the 3.55 ofw over the 3.55 Kmeaw remove all installed homebrew/mods, I really want to start fresh since I have some broken items on my xmb.

Oh yeah you're right, I was thinking about the reply that you gave that other user that upgraded!

Anyways, you don't have to re-install OFW 3.55 first and installing it will not remove anything, so you won't be starting fresh.

If you want to start fresh, you have to either format your HDD, or Restore PS3 System under System Settings. This can be done either before or after you upgrade to Rebug 4.41.2.

So just install Rebug 4.41.2 on top of kmeaw by following the guide in the link above. Also, it would be logical to dump your flash before you upgrade, not after.

I got Rebug installed.

First thing I did was a flash backup, then I did a restore (with a format of the internal hdd). I noticed that all the stuff I had installed to the xmb was gone, but I was still on firmware 9.99. I forgot to remove the spoofer. So I found the spoofer I used and installed the spoofer remover and removed that. Then I installed the rebug and the rebug toolbox and enabled the QA flag. All is working fine, thanks for the help.

One question about multiMAN, when I go to set the permissions of a game that is on my external usb hdd, the screen hangs on setting the permissions, so I press the "o" button to exit and the game loads fine. But, when I set the permissions for a game that is on the internal hdd, it only takes a second to set the permissions without it hanging on the setting permissions screen. And, do all games with a big file need to be on the internal hdd?

R u sure the screen is hanging? It might be actually setting the permissions. If your external has an activity light, check to see if it's flashing while you're setting the permissions. If it's flashing, don't cancel it. Setting permissions is sometimes quick and sometimes it takes time. It all depends on the size of the game and the number of files.

Games with 4GB+ files don't have to be on the internal, you can split the large files and put them on the external.
