You're not supposed to go to uELF - you use it to browse files only. You're supposed to go the PSXLauncher - you must've mapped the buttons wrong or got a corrupt ELF. ;)

I can't even go to uELF from FMCB menu to install PSXLoader. I just get a black screen....

Oh! I see. Have you tried adding uLauncher ELF as a menu item? Did you try re-downloading the launcher? If FMCB works perfectly fine, there's no reason why uELF wouldn't work, really. ;)

Yes it's already there as a menu item. When I try to go to it from the menu I just get a black screen. Probably has something to do with the disc not spinning...

uELF Launcher should turn on even without a disc inside the console - the mod probably has nothing to do with the problem. I suggest looking for a different download from a different source, your Launcher appears to be borked. I suggest SKSApps, that's where I got my copy. ;)

Ok I redid my fmcb mem card and got all that stuff working fine. However, when I launch PSXLoader it says it only works on v9 and above. My slim is 75001, NOT a 9XXXX model.

Also yeah, disc still not spinning/laser still not lighting up.

Right, in this case PSXLauncher is not the way to go (which is why I asked about the model of your system earlier - forgot about revisions though :P).

Try this:
  1. Turn on uLaunchELF, set Disc Control to "ON"
  2. Map the PS2Browser to a button of your choice, save the settings and turn off the system
  3. Put in an original black-bottom PSX disc into your system
  4. Power it up while holding the button mapped to uLaunchELF (the spindle should start turning now)
  5. Swap the disc, press your button mapped to PS2Browser
  6. Boot the game from the browser (it should be detected at this point)
This is said to work perfectly fine when all the sensors are blocked - Disc Control should take over.

When I switch Disc Control to "on" and hit circle for "OK" uLaunchELF freezes. I reset the PS2 to the fmcb menu, and when I try to launch uLaunchELF it just goes to a black screen.

Okay, this is pretty... weird? Delete the config file from the uLaunchELF catalogue to get rid of the pesky Disc Control and attempt to do the same thing without it. Did the spindle react at all by the way? And seeing that we're having jolly fun here, do you have a rescue memory card with another FMCB installation just in case something goes tits up? :P

EDIT: I've read up a little bit on this just now and apparently both the uLaunchELF method and the PSXLauncher method require you to have a motherboard version 9 or higher, excluding a few of the latest, obscure ones... Meaning that Disc Control might be crapping out on you just because you have an earlier system... So I'm pretty much at loss as to how to help you with PSX backups without using a modchip, really. Bizzare... :rofl2:

7500x is v14.

Didnt read whole thread, not exactly sure if it is detecting and spinning a disc at power up. But I've tried super glueing the inside sensor as the lid had a problem holding it down or some other reason I cannot recall. Turns out I used too much glue and it went underneath the switch and caused the metal to not make contact. Ended up bridging the inside switch instead. If the laser doesn't light up when turning on you should check the switch for continuity. Followed by damages to laser ribbon/inserted properly, and lastly fuses.

Since you have the sensors glued I'm not sure how this will work, but I have read this works on slim and have tried it once on a early v13 slim.
Browse menu - insert original ps1 disc - original ps1 detected - swap disc - launch ps1 game.

PS1 disc backup is one reason I prefer chips on PS2.

Well I finally got it fixed. I ended up just ripping out the two censors. I tested the board connections with some small strips of tin foil until I got the disc to start spinning, then I just soldered the connections. (ugly soldering job to be honest, but it works. As long as the system doesn't burst into flames, I think it'll do! :P ) The system is back up and running, and I also got it to play backups. I just stuck a small screwdriver into the 3rd sensor hole, and I was able do the fmcb swap. It seems a tad wonky as far as starting/stopping the spin, but it's very minor and it works well enough.

I see... well then the glue must've indeed messed up the previous job and did something with the connectors, I'm glad that you managed to sort it out.

A thing worth checking - instead of a screwdriver, try using a piece of paper of a toothpick on the third sensor and check Disc Control again (it might've been misbehaving due to the busted sensors) - perhaps you could use the uLoaderELF or the PSXLoader swap in a... less wonky fashion using those. :P All signs on heaven and earth say that you should be able to use those on your model.

Yeah, I went through uLoaderELF and it played my psx backup. It doesn't freeze with disc control on anymore either. The screwdriver was mainly used to test the process. I'll use a more permanent solution later. All is well though. B-)
