First of all, I got my cable all is running and I was like yay! Until I heard the result...(see my file it is an Audacity file btw)

It sounds morphed and I miss a lot of bass. What's the problem with my set-up? I am trying to record my 3DS it's sound. trough my PC it's speakers it sounds awesome!(the sound of my 3DS, the recorded files suck for some reason...)

Edit: added the mario kart test, the sound while racing is FLAT and boring if you compare it to the original speakers

have you tried using anything besides audacity? there are numerous free audio recording programs out there. if you stiill haven't figured out the issue, grab a different one real quick and see if it's just audacity acting up. if not, post back and let us know if the issues are the same in other programs. also, make sure you're capturing from the correct source.

Check if "Bass Boost" is enabled in your audio settings (Control Panel->Sound->*your audio playback device*->Properties->Enhancements). This option kinda messes up audio recording, so turn it off and try again.

I've tried many recording software, all with the same result. I used these:

Windows Sound Recorder
Audacity
Wavepad sound editor
Power Sound Editor Free

All gave the same result >_< Or at least comparable iirc.

Was not turned on.

Could it be my soundcard? ;o

I cannot open your uploaded files at all with Audacity. You neglected to upload the test project folder.

Anyway, make sure you sound is coming from line-in, not microphone.

The problem with using microphone port as line-in is that,

* Microphone port only accepts mono input.
* Microphone port usually undergoes amplifier, which will distort sound on signal not coming from a microphone.

Xonar U3 is an inexpensive USB sound card that has a shared port for microphone/line-in. You can use the line-in after you turned off the microphone.
