If anyone hasn't heard already about the trash that insomniac has been talking about nintendo recently, and then announced that they wont be bring any of their garbage games to wiiu. Doesn't really bother me really since they were sony only developers, but now they saying that the wiiu is current gen. Actually they aren't really wrong as it is current gen since it did come out last year, but too make nintendo look like its nothing is just asking for trouble.

"Next-gen" is just a buzz-word. It's not like it's harming nintendo in any way if you don't get aboard the hype train that uses it for every freaking occasion...

...come to think of it, I'm not sure if nintendo themselves are saying that the wiiu is "next generation". It's mostly power users who want to label everything so they can feel bigshots about their precious gaming console.

Next Gen has become so subjective these days it lost it's meaning.

Also, Insomniac doesn't have garbage games. Uncharted is one of the best series this gen, perhaps ever.

When talking about the hardware inside, it's not. It's an upgraded Wii just like the Wii was an upgraded Gamecube.
Because if the hardware can't be similar without being out of date...

I don't know why you keep acting like the architecture and hardware have to completely change every generation. It's silly.

You know what the Wii U is? A video game system. If it has the games you want on it, it doesn't really matter what anybody else says.

(I know, I know, "Wii U has no games!" You get the point.)

It is next-gen for Nintendo but they say its not due to the hardware, but if you use that logic then the PS4 & 720 are lacking in hardware also comparing to a PC which will be stronger/faster every year. Its just all about the games, if you love Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, etc on Nintendo console then the Wii U is your next gen.

"Next-gen" has NOTHING to do with the hardware inside a device. It never has meant that. "Next-gen" in game console context simply means the next generation of game consoles. For Nintendo, it's the Wii U and 3DS. For Sony, it's the PS4 and Vita. For Microsoft, it's probably going to be similar to the PS4 in terms of hardware but cost you monthly on top of the $500 you paid for it in the first place.

Developers complaining about the Wii U not being "next gen" has more to do with butt hurt developers trying to make Nintendo butt hurt then anything else. Unless it's a user on this site, in which case they're just an annoying fanboy and you should take their "Wii U sucks" talk as a compliment, cause deep down what they really mean is "I'm jealous of Wii U owners so I will talk trash about them and make them feel just as bad as I do!"

Hey, prove me wrong!

Change and improvement are not directly linked in either direction.

And yet you said the hardware isn't next-gen because it is similar to the Wii's, but a lot better.
No, that's not what I said. I said it's an upgraded Wii, I did not say it's similar. I also, in the exact same sentence, without even a separator noted that it's the exact same situation as the Wii being an upgraded GC.

i.e. it's built like that for backwards-compatibility and cost reasons, which affects performance due to the core technologies that need to be supported being older.

We have official specs, unofficial specs, data from Intel, measured clock speeds from Marcan, and people who can even run multi-core code from inside vWii. The Wii U is a higher-clocked Wii with two more cores (and some additional L2 cache I presume, the category was not specified).

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood you. A lot can get lost through text, and the way I read your post you sounded derogatory. Marcan (and Nintendo representatives) did say there was a lot of extra cache though.

Like I said in the post where I put up my theories on the CPU, it's likely to be a new design at the core, so I wouldn't be surprised if the greatly increased the L2 cache since, as you've noted, that's something modern programs love. Maybe some increased L1 as well, though space there is generally tight.
