So that exclusive thing for WiiU owners as an apology released. It's not a demo at all. It's a fully online challenge based and time based game where you can see your ranking among world players, your friends, or just in your country and race against ghosts.
There are two things:
Weekly Challenges
Daily Challenges
Weekly Challenges are.. well, something that goes for a whole week giving you more time to try and perfect your platforming to get a Diamond Trophy (more on trophies in a bit).
Daily Challenges are ones that last for a day so you have to be good if you want to get the Diamond Trophy.
Trophies are worth points, or experience if you will. When you get enough, your "Awesomeness Level" increases. The higher the Awesomeness Level, the more challenges you can do such as the Daily Extreme Challenge. The DXC offers a different challenge and level each time, but the levels are brutal and obviously meant for skilled platformers.
You get to collect Lums which will let you unlock more characters. Whether or not this will carry over to the full game or not, I have no clue.
So far there are a few different challenges, I'm hoping there will be new ones:
Collect 150 Lums as fast as possible
Get to the end as fast as possible
Travel as far as possible.
I already put like 10 hours into the game, it's really fun. It's free so there's no reason not to pick it up. You get to play the three levels that were in the demo unlimited amount of time too.
