It says on 3dbrew that vulnerabilities in something used by xcution were patched.. does that mean 3ds isn't hacked anymore?

Haha, its difficult to explain. the 3ds is still hacked, only not as much as it was before hahah
They have patched one important thing but we still have the savegame exploit and the devs know more about the system now than before. maybe they can find their way back in there again.

it was in this thread at somepoint
http://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-3ds-hack-compilation.340296/
i dont have the time to trail through it

Neimod was trolling when he said they'd never release the hack.

Also, if I remember what I read correctly, certain vulnerabilities were patched in the recent update. However, yellows8 said that the exploits fixed were never intended for public consumption anyway; they would never have made it into a released hack. He also said there were other known vulnerabilities that they hadn't confirmed as unpatched at the time. Admittedly, I've been busy since then and I'm not sure on the status since then.

I think similarly as you did. But neimod seems to be missing for a long time (>= 2 months), left yellow doing the job.
neimod use ramhaxx, which is complex and powerful. yellow only has the exploit gamesave (the epuipment is disassembler? detecting service API is not an easy job so the speed is not so rapid as we expected). Well I seem to be forgetting something...right?
That's a good season for someone to learn FPGA and make a ramhaxx himself (and not troll others).
If you feel uneasy about above that is only i got too nervous installing the ISE. joke. Have a good day.

I never really understand what people mean when they say "trolling". does this mean he was just lying to get people to stop asking him, and he'll eventually release it? and if so, what's the basis for that conclusion, did he tell you in private? (I'm not saying I don't believe you btw, just that I don't really understand.)

it seems to be pretty straightforward to me, he doesn't want to release the hack because it can be used to pirate games and when that happens, Nintendo will probably start cracking down on the homebrew scene. at the same time I'm not sure if there's any way to hack the system in a way that allows regular homebrew and foreign games, while simultaneously disallowing pirated games. that doesn't seem very likely to me.

there are probably a fair amount of exploits in the system, some of them useful and some of them not useful. when Nintendo patches things, they could be patching some exploit nobody had found yet (even the hackers who keep their exploits to themselves).

Trolling is more like he deliberately said that even though it's not true, in order to annoy people. Trolling can be other things, but always with the intent to annoy/confuse people. That's kind of why they call it trolling :P

I can understand him being afraid of a lawsuit, but that's why you don't let people know who you are :P
Such a lawsuit would bankrupt anyone, if I was him I would probably be afraid of it as well.
I don't think anyone knows whether he was serious about not releasing it but he has seemed to be against releasing anything since the beginning and that may not change any time soon.

Neimod was trolling when he said they'd never release the hack.
Neimod and Yellows8 said they would not release the current hack because it's kernel-mode and they don't want random people writing code in kernel-mode because it would easily allow ROM loaders. We were told this as far back as December, so I'm in with the "Who cares?" crowd since nobody ever said they were releasing things, and the people who were working on something did say they weren't going to release it. His whole "because I'm greedy" remark was a sarcastic "inb4" to how he knew people would react to his decision to not release it, there have been other, more clear statements since then.

Now, if they do make a secondary hack that will be public and user-mode only (homebrew, no OS modification like ROM loaders), I can't say. They haven't gotten far with that at all yet.

I've also seen it used for backtracking. so someone says something that's wrong or really terrible, and they get called out on it, and then they just say "I was trolling" even though they probably weren't. so I don't always take someone's word for it when they say that. (but aside from that, I don't think Neimod himself has said that he was trolling, so I'm not sure how anyone could know that he was.) iirc the only way we know the hack's not going to be released is because people personally asked Neimod.

edit: Rydian's post above mine clarifies this.

it should not be too difficult to release the hack anonymously. nobody knows what the hack is, so if a hack is released, there's no way to implicate anyone specific. so I'm guessing it's like he says, he doesn't want to release it because of the potential for piracy. which is a fair concern, Nintendo would probably crack down on the homebrew scene if that were to happen.

If everyone refused to release anything just because it might be turned into something that could be used for piracy, homebrew would never advance.
People like this are keeping the homebrew scene back. If someone codes a warez loader or WAD manager, it's them who are responsible for enabling piracy, not the people who release the homebrew-enabling hack. The hack is just a way to run homebrew, what people use that capability for is their own responsibility. I just don't get that kind of mentality.

yeah, if the hack were released it could at the very least give other programmers (emulator, etc) something to work with. but I'm sure there are other things to consider. maybe Nintendo will immediately patch the exploit, something that's less likely if the exploit is only user-mode.

I agree with you on that point. It could be argued that making a hack with no possibility to pirate would make companies less inclined to bash at homebrew makers,
but seeing how things are, I don't believe in it at all.

Team Twiizers tried this with the Wii, hoping that Nintendo would be less focused on blocking homebrew if you couldn't pirate with it. And for a while, you couldn't.
And guess what happened? Nintendo released an update that blocked the HBC installer not too long after that. They made a post on HackMii about it and how they were not going to bother trying to prevent warez loading anymore after that. This was all before softmodding was possible.
I don't think Nintendo cares about whether warez loading is possible or not. They probably consider homebrew games (and emulation) to cause them lost revenue because people are playing them instead of buying games. It wouldn't surprise me.
