...that's pretty freaking stupid.

I really don't see the point in buying those "big phones" - they're too big to be comfortable as a phone and too small to be considered an acceptable tablet - it's the middle ground and in this case, that's a bad thing in my opinion.
I don't think this is a bad thing at all since they're giving more options to the consumers which is a good thing. I for one am turned on, I'm a very large person (6'4 and 15 years old) and I believe the 6.3 is perfect for someone my size.

Consumer choice is one thing. Consumer confusion is another. Samsung has too many phone and tablet product lines, and their release windows are too close together.

...eh. I'm torn between the thought of it. I already have a iPad, and so a phone-tablet would be redundant. BUT, there is the fact that it runs Android, and that would be cool. Though, I would hate having a phone that couldn't fit into my pocket...Meh. I don't really know. I've never had a cell phone before. *cries pathetically*

This is just getting stupid. Of course 4.8" is becoming a norm but this is just getting overboard.

Oh and I see so many fan droids on the web claiming how "innovative" Samsung is with their new devices with uber huge screens.

Are you trying to hint out that Apple is doing better and/or more daring concepts towards the masses and probably isn't making 6.X" phone patent of their own right now as we type this?

If not, move along. :P

I shun mobile phones like I shun online games but I do have to ask how many people still use their phone as an actual rather than something that can be coerced into making a phone call should the need arise?

I know I do. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find any feature on my ancient phone other than making calls and sending texts :P

More power to you- I quite frequently get sent out to find "brickies" phones so people that work in the less than hospitable conditions (building sites, car garages, machine shops.....) can still have a phone and those old bricks not only have a battery that lasts a week even if you make calls but are damn near bombproof to boot.

Trouble is from what I have observed as I invariably sit there replacing the screen, case or back panels for the third time that year, and in general when wandering about, most people use modern phones to do little more than act as a camera when they need it, email/facebook messages otherwise (texting was always a perk for the phone companies and cost them basically nothing though it has largely died out as email and formerly bbm rose), games and a tiny bit of light web (IMDB and other such low end stuff). If they were ever phoned it was their parents or similar and if they ever phoned from it then it was for a taxi or those that phoned them.

Since when did I even mention Apple in my post? They are going downhill anyway.

I'm just saying Samsung increasing their screen sizes is just getting plain ridiculous. And the Samsung fan base who calls bigger screen size an innovation.

It just when people talk down on Samsung, they are usually a Apple fan.
Besides that, it was meant to be a jk...

it's not that big unless you have child hands or something, I'm quite tall so it's perfect for me.

galaxy-note-2-vs-iphone-4s-1.jpg

I still use the 4s and won't get the 5 because I think that's too big. For me the 4s is a perfect phone size. It has nothing to do with the size of my hands or anything like that. The Note 2 would never fit in my pockets and when I see people using it, they look ridiculous holding it up to their ear.

PS. I used 4s because it's what I own right now, so let's not turn this into a Samsung vs Apple thread.

And all this time, I thought the S3 was too big.

For a phone, yes. For a hybrid of a tablet and phone it's fine though. That's pretty much what Samsung is trying to do. I think it all depends on the consumer to be honest, but why buy a Samsung Mega 6.3 when you can buy an unlocked Nexus 7 32GB tablet with 4G built in without being tied to a contract and shit?

Personally, I like big screens. I wouldn't mind if LG and Google got together again and made a Nexus 5.

This is just getting stupid. Of course 4.8" is becoming a norm but this is just getting overboard.

Well, they're mostly talking about the fact that Samsung is betting on bigger screens, since the Note and Note 2 were pretty successful, but I don't think it's the size that's "innovative". To me, it's all of the features Samsung has packed into their ROMs, and although they all sound gimmicky and I probably wouldn't use any of that much, I'm sure there's somebody who likes the features.
